BEFORE

Well... That's not what I was expecting.

"Fight? Fight what? Fight who?" Oh look, I'm already rambling.

Andy puts his hands in the air to tell me to calm down and places them on my shoulders reassuringly. "I know this seems pretty damn weird but I'll explain, I promise. But I wanna explain with your dad so after breakfast, yeah?" I sigh and nod.

I grab some of his bags and we walk into his room in silence and I place them near the door and he throws the remanding bags onto his bed.

"I'm gonna go, see you at breakfast." I give him a smile and hurry to my room. Hmm... What to do.

Two hours later, I'm still lying on my bed staring at the ceiling and counting the cracks.

Five hundred and twelve

Five hundred and thirteen... Wait, I think I counted that one...

I huff and sit up. If I knew I'd be here so long, I'd have brought loads more stuff. And there's not even any wifi. What is life?

Knock knock

"Come in" I shout

Andy walks in with a smile and his hands behind his back.. What's he hiding?

"Hey, Em. I got you something because I figured you'd be bored as hell," I give him a smile. At least I'm not the only one that's bored.

Sitting at the edge of the bed with a weird look of excitement, he hands me a book.

I recognise it straight away from the feel of it and the way the corners slowly bend up from sneaking a touch night and night again.

But do I wanna still read this with what I know? Or lack thereof...

"I know what you're thinking, why should you read your mums diary after everything we've told you about her? Well, I thought it'd be a good idea. Give you an insight to her thoughts and feelings.

She wrote this before she was pregnant with you and before she'd even met Rob. The beginnings a bit boring but where I put this" he points to a little post-it note sticking out a little before halfway, "is when she starts to write for the school paper and visits the cult and stuff... Also, she sticks in little extracts of articles she wrote. It's quite sweet actually" I thank him and he turns before he leaves "oh, and breakfast is ready. It took so long because... Well, your dad can't cook and he nearly burnt the place down" he laughs and I slide the diary of my mother before she was that under the mattress and head downstairs.

ROB

"I don't know..." I rub the back of my neck, hoping to get the stress outta me

"Come on, we need to carry on with the plan, you know that. We have to tell her everything and-"

"Well, obviously not everything." I add and his eyes go dark.

"Don't. Don't go there. I feel guilty enough already not being able to tell her the whole truth but you can at least agree with me when I say we should tell her all we can." Andy gives me a stern look after his proposition that tells me he's not kidding.

I think over what he said just as Emma opens her bedroom door to come down for breakfast. "We'll talk about it later." I mumble in a rush and Andy quickly jumps from his stool to prepare emmas plate. I jump up too and plant a smile on my face and walk towards her.

"Hey, sweetie. Morning... Again" I chuckle and she smiles awkwardly. "Well, I know it took ages, but breakfast is ready!" Because I forgot how to make a decent meal and nearly set the cabin alight but other than that, breakfast is ready.
