BEFORE

Crap! I'm gonna sound so stupid but I'm too deep in it now, I have to tell them.

"Yes, well... No! I mean I've seen them but I haven't seen them, you know?" I thought this would suffice and save me from having to go into detail but judging by Andy's expression, it hasn't worked.

He's staring at me with his mouth open like a fish. Say something come on, say something. Instead, my Dad did.

"Emma, you're not making any sense. are you feeling alright?" he looked at me, worried.

Great (!) He already thinks I'm crazy!

"Nah, I'm alright. What I'm trying to say might not make a lot ta sense but just hear me out. It's the truth, okay?" I waited for their agreement and they both gave it. Nodding for me to go on. "I haven't really seen them in person, just in my dreams. Well, more like nightmares actually. But-"

"Wait, you're telling me they're what you've been seeing in your recurrent nightmare?" I guess I should've really told Andy before all this since he was always the one to wake me up and hold me when I was screaming all night in fear.

"Yeah. I'm sorry I didn't tell you before its just that I didn't know how to until now." I rushed am apology and then sighed. I'm dreading telling them the next bit.

"That's not all..."I got up and went to the kitchen to get myself a glass of water. They followed me, obviously intrigued.

"It gets worse?" Yeah, Dad! Not only have I been seeing the creepy minions, but also your wife too! Who, by the way, isn't actually dead but very much alive and seems to be in my recurrent nightmares every night!

"What else, Emma?"

Sighing, I started.

"In my nightmares, it's all the same. It's always me running in the snow. Running away from something. Even though I know how it's going to end since I can talk about it now, during the dream, I have no idea. I'm always clueless. Clueless, but terrified.

As I run, I can always hear their claws scratching in the ice after me, determined to grab me. I can feel them breathing down my neck and can smell their horrid breath as they get nearer and nearer. That stays the same; always has. They're always chasing after me, gaining on me.

After, I see a light with warmth emitting from it and I'm drawn to it. It seems like a safe haven from the monsters coming after me. Obviously, I head towards it because... Because she said to..."

"She? Emma, who's she?" Andy and my dad look at me expectantly. Well, here goes nothing!

"Mum. She told me. I've been thinking nothing of it recently. I just thought it's because I missed her but now I'm more confused than ever." I moved around them and sat back on the sofa, defeated.

Sitting next to me, Andy put his arm around me and looked down at me. "It's okay, kiddo. you're doing amazing. I've gotta admit, that's some weird-ass dream but we'll figure it out when the time comes, okay? Now, we've been talking for a while now and it's gotten pretty late. I don't know about you two but I need some shut-eye! Anyone else?"

I smiled at his admirable joyousness at such a time and nodded. I really need my sleep after all this and I've more than deserved it. Getting up, I trailed into my room.

I don't even remember opening my door before I collapsed into the bed.
