BEFORE

I rapped on the door, not bothering to search for my set of keys. I was suddenly aware of the manner in which I knocked. I realised that somewhere, maybe in my subconscious, I had thought back to the day when Dad and I had created our very own secret knock after I was jealous of Alice Day and Mindy Watt's secret handshake. Those were the reasons to be upset at the age of 6. Wow, I was so naive.

Andy opened the door and squinted at me. I don't really remember what I said because I just barged in. I went into the kitchen and sat, waiting. I didn't bother explaining despite him asking an infinite list of questions. I didn't answer because I had realised my mistake. I had led my father right here, and what I was waiting for was the knock on the door.

When Andy returned with him and waited for my surprised reaction and didn't find it, he started to question me. No, rather interrogate. I answered all questions simarlaly by telling him to ask the man I hadn't seen in 11 years and why he was standing in our kitchen now.

"I... I'm here to warn you. I'm here to protect you..." I was just about to tell him where to stick his explanation but he continued. "I know I wasn't here when you needed me but I'm here now. Hear me out."

My estranged father sat on the living room sofa next to Andy and I. He began to explain.
