renegades
chapter three"Astrid means well, you know."
I arched a brow at Revna beside me. She led me up the cliff walk towards the edge of Berk, her Terrible Terror fluttering in front of us, wagging her tail and glancing back━we were too slow for her.
I frowned, still trying to take everything in after my experience out south by the Berserker boat. But being away from everybody was nice. However, I didn't need Revna to tell me Astrid meant well. She was my sister, I know her.
"Right," I mumbled, fixing the straps on my wrists. "Trust me, I'm her sister, I know."
"Oh, yeah, right," Revna went a little red. She gave me a nervous smile. "Sorry. I just. Astrid always tells me how much she worries about you, so I thought you should know that she's just being protective."
"Yeah, so protective," I couldn't help the sarcasm. We stepped up onto the cliff walk and ascended the slope, wrapping around the cliff's edge. "And so demeaning."
Revna chuckled. Turning to Saber, she whistled and her dragon stopped, rushing back over with an excited grin. With a smile, Revna gestured a quick signal with her fingers and Saber purred. With no other noises, she dived down off the cliff walk and to the docks.
I frowned. "What was that? What did you just do?"
"Oh, that?" Revna held up her hand, before shrugging, laughing at the surprised look on my face. "That was just me telling Saber to go fish hunting for our dinner. And probably Snotlout's too." (She rolled her eyes at that) "Small dragons are good at hunting for you. You'll learn when you find a dragon for yourself."
I pursed my lips, feeling that same squirm in my stomach I had when Toothless caught me before I hit the water. I don't think I gave Revna the response she expected, for she glanced back at me with wide, dark eyes amongst her black Jorgensen hair. And━as if understanding━softened her gaze.
"Don't let that experience shun you forever," she told me, giving me an awkward nudge. I arched a brow.
Revna and I never really talked before now. We were the same age, yes, and lived next to each other. But she never spent time with her brother before the battle against the Red Death and hence never spent time with me. Instead, she stayed around her cousin, Hiccup in the blacksmith shop━the both of them working as apprentices under Gobber's watch. We were always polar opposites: her always off dreaming and not the violent type, while I was off training constantly with Astrid back behind the house. However, now, everything has changed. In fact, it made me wonder whether Revna and I were more similar than I thought. Both of us were off dreaming about things. Hers were more mystic, off looking for trolls or new dragons, while mine were trying to figure what happened to my parents, or anything related to them ... but we were both of wishing for something else.
