"So, how are things with the turtles?" Mr. Murakami askes as Y/n is helping him on the restaurant.
"Things are... Okay, I guess? Every day they get more and more curious about what happened to us that day back at Japan. It's getting harder and harder not to touch the issue. But I can tell that they still try not to push it too much and make me uncomfortable."
Her uncle nods. "I see. It seems they really are great friends."
"They are. They just... Get too curious sometimes."
"I can imagine. As beings so very different, they must be curious about people who have the same differences as them."
"But we are not mutants."
"*Chuckles* No, we aren't. Yet, our past and current conditions set us aside from what society would call as 'normal'. Me with my blindness, and you with your scars. People treat us differently, Y/n. Perhaps the same way they would treat the turtles if they ever came out of the shadows they live at."
Y/n stays quiet as she takes in the words her uncle just said.
"So... What am I supposed to do? Just tell them what happened? You know I can't do that. It-- It still hurts too much." She says as she grips her shoulders tightly. The memories of that day are still fresh on her mind, like a brand new wound, when actually it is the old one being opened yet again.
Just then she feels her uncle's hand on her head patting it. "I know it does. Trust me, it still hurts me as well. To think the last thing I would ever see would be my loved ones being murdered like that. But you must know that, sometimes, it hurts less when more people know about it so they can help you heal. However, it's up to you to let them be there for you or not."
".... How do you do it, uncle? Bear all of it, all of that pain and anger all by yourself?"
"*Sighs* I don't. Because I know you also share that pain. And that we are always going to be here for each other, like the family that we are. Although, I would not mind if more people knew about us. The turtles and their father, for instance. From what you've told me, he also understands our pain."
"He does. The Shredder took everything from him, just like he did to us."
"Then he's someone who understands us better than anyone. And we, on the other hand, also understand him. That should be a source of relief for all of us. However, that does not mean his sons can't help us."
"So... You're saying that I really should open up to them? About what happened to us?"
"Yes. But remember it is okay to take your own time. And I'm sure that they will understand."
She smiles and her uncle and pulls him into a hug. "Ojisan, arigatogozaimasu. (Thank you, uncle.)"
Little did they know that a certain mutant turtle heard them, and was determined to help her carry her burden.
