joji
it was 7:30 in the morning and mia was running around the house trying to pack everything and get everybody ready for the lake house weekend.
i was wearing stella in a baby holder on my chest while i was making coffee for all the adults.
i heard mia trying to wake max up for the third time upstairs. wow, i am so in love with her.
"okay, then we put in the oat milk for mama, because she doesn't like regular milk, remember that. that's important," i mumbled to stella, who was looking up at me, mesmerized.
"and then regular milk goes to uncle ian, uncle max, and papa," i continued, pouring skim milk into the last three coffees.
"joji, honey?" mia asked, jogging down the stairs, "yep?" i responded, turning around with mias coffee.
"oh, thank you! i was just gonna ask if you put the diaper bag in the car? the pink one?" she muttered, taking gulps of her coffee.
"yes, anything else? i'm on dad duty, i can carry whatever." i grinned, doing a little spin, making stella giggle.
"just grab our bags maybe? i already packed for you." she smiled, and i thanked her. i really lucked out in the baby mom game.
mia was wearing a white linen summer dress that i had bought her for mother's day, which she was so hesitant for me to buy for her.
her hair has lightened for the summer and was now touching her shoulders.
"you almost ready? it's a long drive and i want to make sure it's stellas nap time while we're still on the drive out," she mumbled, taking another sip.
"thank you for remembering the oat milk," she grinned, going up on her tiptoes to kiss me softly.
"i'll meet you in the car in 15, ian and max are going in ians car," i smiled, "alright, make sure her shoes are on too!" mia blushed, pointing to the tiny sneakers on the floor.
i nodded and kissed her forehead gently and she spun around to go get more bags to bring to the car i assume.
"you ready for a fun weekend, sweet pea?" i laughed, looking down at stella giggling on my chest.
________
"take a left in 10 metres." my gps announced. we were only 30 minutes away from the lake house and luckily, stella was asleep in her car seat the entire time.
"somehow max and ian are 10 minutes away? they left after us?" mia laughed, looking up from her phone.
"do you know how fast max speeds? it makes sense," i chuckled and mia giggled. "yeah, you're right."
"it's gonna be so fun this weekend. i'm sure stella will love the beach. apparently there's a private beach area that comes with the air bnb," mia smiled, looking back at stella, who was still asleep.
"i think she'll like it. she's getting so good at swimming," i replied, merging into the next lane.
"that's because she loves swimming with you out there, at the rate you've been teaching her, we'll have a baby in the olympics," mia laughed, taking a sip from her water bottle.
"you think she'll be asleep the whole drive?" i asked, looking in the rear view mirror to see stella, still out like a light.
"hopefully, what time did she go down? i mean it might be good if she's up for when we get there because we are gonna have to set up a crib for her in the room, and i'll have to y'know, stay up with her all night because i don't know how well she'll sleep there because it's a new place, and--" mia rambled,
