Let's be honest, we're all simps for Lady Dimistrescu. That's why you're all reading this.• • •
You're not sure why you're still alive.
You have not made a mistake just yet but you didn't think the girls would actually adhere to the rules about only killing maids that make any small mistake. They've been watching you closely because you're the longest to have stayed.
No one ever lasts a single week yet you've been here for almost two months. You had grown used to the fear that resides in you as you wander the great halls.
You hummed lightly and started to sweep. A gentle melody that you remember your mother used to lull you to sleep with. Right before she was killed by a Lycan.
Your eyes kept flickering to the grand piano. Nobody knew this about you but you knew how to play all sorts of instruments. Ranging from the violin to saxophone to the piano. It was almost like a way to reconnect with your mother every time you played. She adored music which in turn made you fall in love with it.
You shook your head at the thought of playing the piano. If anyone were to catch you, you're probably as good as dead.
Your hums soon turned into gentle singing, making sure to keep it soft as not to disturb anyone else. You were almost done sweeping by the end of the song.
Two flies flew on your hand and you stopped your ministrations. A swarm of flies made its way in front of you and made out a body.
It was Cassandra.
You were somewhat relieved that it wasn't Daniela, that girl is the most insane out of the three of them. Although it doesn't mean that Cassandra was any more safe.
"Lady Cassandra," You lightly bowed your head at her, awaiting her instructions or for her to hurt you.
An awkward silence ensued as she stared blankly at you. It was weird, she would usually giggle and then threaten you, sometimes even use her scythe to puncture you. Never enough to kill you though.
You were somewhat taller than her, coming from a line of freakishly tall people. It was awkward at first, being taller than the daughters of Lady Dimitrescu but they definitely knew how to put you in your place.
You observed her face and realized she had a few tear streaks streaming down.
"Are you alright, Lady Cassandra?" You questioned in concern.
It seemed to snap her out of her thoughts. She glared at you but it didn't seem as threatening considering her tears.
"Keep singing," She demanded.
You blinked, almost certain you were delusional and she didn't just say that to you.
Her scythe was slowly making its way out of the sleeve of her hoodie. Realizing she was completely serious, you immediately started the lullaby your mother sang to you.
You made sure to be loud enough just for her to hear, you didn't want the other sisters to appear in front of you. And from how alert Cassandra seemed, she didn't either.
Hush little baby don't say a word,
Mama's gonna show you a hummingbird. If that hummingbird won't fly,
Mama's gonna show you the evening sky. When the nighttime shadows fall,
Mama's gonna hear the crickets call. You notice Cassandra was starting to calm down and no more tears were falling from her eyes.
As their songs drift from afar,
Mama's gonna show you a shooting star.As that star drops out of view,
Mama's gonna read a book with you. When that story has been read,
Mama's gonna get your warm bedspread.Cassandra seemed to be exhausted as she listened to you. Her eyes were obviously fighting to stay open. You bravely approached her and gently guided her to the makeshift couch in the back of the room.
She didn't even fight you which surprised you in a way. She must be really tired. You continued to sing as you tucked her with a medium sized blanket.
If that quilt begins to wear,
Mama's gonna find your teddy bear.If that teddy bear won't hug,
Mama's gonna catch you a lightening bug.If that lightening bug won't glow,
Mama's gonna find you an old banjo.Cassandra no longer fought her sleepiness and drifted asleep as you picked your broom back up, continuing your sweeping.
You kept singing, soothing both you and Cassandra.
If that banjo's out of tune,
Mama's gonna show you the harvest moon. While that moon drifts from the sky,
Mama's gonna sing you a lullaby. As the song came to an end, you proudly looked at the floor you finished cleaning. You smiled lightly at Cassandra's sleeping figure. She looked so adorable when she wasn't trying to kill you. That is when you hear light chucking from behind you.
You whipped around to see the tall Lady of the castle herself. How did you not hear her? Even though you were tall, she was massive.
Standing at only 6ft and 11 inches whereas Lady Dimitrescu was 9ft and several inches.
She's so silent for someone of her physique.
You immediately bowed your head, making sure to keep your voice a whisper to not disturb Cassandra, "Lady Dimitrescu. My apologies if I disturbed you with my singing."
For the first time ever since you've been here, Lady Dimitrescu had a soft look on her face, it was directed at Cassandra's sleeping figure.
Her voice was like silk as she whispered back, "Don't ever apologize for comforting my daughter. Have you finished your duties?"
"Almost, my Lady. I just have to clean the kitchen and wash the dishes," You respond softly.
She looked thoughtful, "No need. I'll get someone else to do it. You can have the rest of the day off."
Your eyes widened in surprise, "T-Thank you, my Lady."
"No need to thank me," She muttered, her eyes still on Cassandra.
"She's okay, right?" You couldn't help but express your concern.
Lady Dimitrescu chuckled, "She's a Dimitrescu, of course she is. I suggest you leave before I change my mind about you taking the day off. Or something worse."
You quickly bow your head again at her and made yourself scarce. You put the broom back into its original position and made your way to your room.
It was nothing big, just a small room with a bed, small closet and a nightstand. You plopped down, drained from just having a conversation with Lady Dimitrescu.
You learned a lot today.
They still carry some human feelings despite their overall look.
This probably won't change anything though. Tomorrow, it'll be the same thing between you and the daughters. It will be the same between Lady Dimitrescu and you.
You're just their maid who will no doubt make a mistake and end up down in the basement where all the other maids go.
In all honestly, you'd rather die by them than whatever waits outside the castle if you ever thought to escape.
