Bakugo plays basketball. He's a jock. We know this. He's not like- a bully, per say, he's more of an asshole. But not like a player asshole.
Like a genuine asshole. He's just mean. To everyone.
He's not a bad kid though. He behaves, respects his teachers and whatnot.
But his peers?
Well.
Fuck them kids, am I right?
He gets disgustingly good grades, and maybe if he wasn't such a stupid idiot mean jerk face loser man he would actually be cute.
Except he's not.
He considers himself the best player in the team (and it sucks cause he's right), and he's got this really odd/specific vendetta against some green haired kid on their team. No one really knows why.
He's a hard worker, an intelligent kid, and kind of a perfectionist.
It's whatever though.
Uraraka is a cheerleader.
Don't let that fool you tho.
She's not popular.
She sees it like this:
When you look at a picture full of people, there are two groups.
The people that stand out, the ones that really make you think 'wow...'
And then there's the rest.
Uraraka is the rest.
She's not incredible, or interesting, or anyone who stands out.
She's Uraraka. Pretty enough. Smart enough. Nice enough.
She's just about enough.
Everyone knows her, but she's not too impressionable. When you think 'Ochako Uraraka' your first thought would probably be: sweet.
She's a very sweet girl. Always finding room for people, giving things up for others and giving out words of encouragement.
She's sweet. Everyone knows this.
But when she gets paired up with Bakugo Katauki for their end of the year science exam-project?
Yeah. Fuck this guy.
She didn't hate him before the project. She knew he was a jerk, but she thought he still had that small, dwindling hope of being a good person.
She was wrong.
His first words upon getting paired with Uraraka were those of:
"Okay Chub, listen up. I don't give a damn about you. I give a damn about my grades, so if you could do me a favor and keep your dyslexic ass quiet for the remainder of our time together, that would be great."
Of course that rubbed her the wrong way, so she snapped back.
"What did you say to me?" "No, what did you say?" "Who the hell do you think you are? No! I don't give a damn! You aren't special. You're just a highschooler who doesn't have a lick of self awareness. In five years from now all you'll be is an alone, drunk asshole who lives in a one bedroom apartment with his pet roach."
And then they just kept on like that.
They had their little moments of productivity, sure, for the sake of the project, but like...
No.
They often argued and bickered, to the point where it became a problem in class. Their teacher had offered to give them different partners and everything, but they both refused, intent on winning whatever sick game they had going on between them.
It got more childish as it went on.
At first they were well thought out, personal, viscous jabs.
But then they developed into something worse.
Notes thrown across the class, tripping each other in the hallways, sticking tongues out (looking at you Bakugo), and mimicking the other (Uraraka.)
But along the line, their bickering turned into more of playful banter than anything else.
It's not like they knew it, but eventually, after numerous occasions of skipping lunches with their friends to 'work on the project' and 'studying' together after school, a real, tender friendship was created.
Bakugo learned more about Uraraka than anyone else knew, even her best friend (and his rival at that), Deku.
Uraraka learned that Bakugo was actually a very kind hearted person, if only a bit troubled.
Bakugo knew that Uraraka was far more than enough.
Uraraka found that bakugo is more than just UA's resident pretty boy turned asshole.
They were friends. Unbreakable.
But what happens when the project is over? They've spent the past four weeks practically attracted at the hip, but now it's almost over and there's this anxiety looming over both of their heads saying 'what if'
What if he leaves me for someone more interesting?
What if she gets tired of my attitude?
What if?
So naturally, they distance themselves from each other.
It doesn't help.
If anything, it makes them both come to even worse realizations.
Uraraka goes on a date with Deku, only to find out that she'd rather be with Bakugo.
Bakugo sees her having dinner with Deku at his favorite ramen shop, only to find that his heart is now in his stomach.
They both just can't.
Que cheesy montage of them both scrambling around campus looking for each other to confess their feelings only for them to meet up in the empty classroom where they first met.
She bursts through the door, breathless and sorry.
Her hand braced against the doorframe, Uraraka looks at him just as his gaze snaps up to find hers.
"Angel," he breathes, his hand curling anxiously around his gym bag.
"Hey Kats." She sighs.
And it's like they know.
It's like they know that they've both been running around their shitty ass high school looking for the other, in every which way they've ever been, only to realize that they would meet right back where they started.
And she takes the first step.
And then he takes the second.
And they both take enough steps to meet in the middle and finally finally finally
Kiss.
It's so easy to feel like they've known each other their whole lives, when his hands are around her waist and her fingers are ghosting around his jaw.
It's so easy.
Happy Kacchako day everyone ❤️
