Tarazi's idea of travelling clothes, the light material of a heavily embroidered tan tunic top over plain pants, was much better than hers as she stepped out into the late morning sunlight.
She slipped on sunglasses against the glare, almost tripping over her sandalled feet as an orange Lamborghini pulled up in front of the hotel.
"Our ride is here." Tarazi strode towards the beautiful slick car while Ashley looked around as four-wheel drives pulled up behind and his men climbed in, bags added into the back, including theirs. So, they were the only ones riding in a fancy, expensive sports car. "Ashley?"
Blinking, Ashley headed towards the car, where the door lifted like a bat's wing. Up from above, where she lowered under as Tarazi settled behind the steering wheel.
Placing her belongings at her feet, she made herself at home into the contour of the sculptured seats, pointing at the door as it closed. She had never seen one up close.
"That's cool."
"You don't say." His lips curled slightly, to be given a warning glare, which was useless behind her glasses.
"I do, now what?"
"I drive us home." He smiled fully this time, shifting the gears into first gear, and took off from the hotel from the off-the-road entrance onto the main street with a throaty purr.
She liked the sound of us, even after discovering the box empty. The necklace's still missing. It was a good thing she hadn't rung her sister, calling off the hunt.
The reprieve had been short-lived.
His reaction had been to snap it closed and tapped her nose, telling her it wasn't her concern anymore. He was taking over. Acting like it never happened. Emotionally tired, Ashley went along with it for now until they heard from her sister.
"How long before we get there?"
"Six hours, or longer, depends."
"Depends? On what?"
"If we stop, and admire the sights."
"The desert?" she asked, with a surprised tone.
"Be nice Ashley. There is beauty in this land."
"I know that." She wiggled in the seat, watching the views go by, letting it wash over, enjoying the building, some askew, almost whimsical, surrounded by greenery. Gardens were placed throughout the city as they raced through, low to the ground, expertly handed by Tarazi.
"You're driven one of these before."
Laughing, he patted the dashboard. "We go a long way back, don't we, baby?"
"Baby?" She choked back a laugh. "I feel so unloved." His face tilted towards her, yet black mirrored sunglasses hid his stunning eyes. "With good reason." She muttered under her breath, seeing a muscle in his jaw clench. Bad sign and she had promised him. "So, this is your car?"
Tilting her face towards him, while his concentration was back on the road ahead, studying his side profile with slashed cheekbones, strong angular jawline enhanced by dark sculptured stubble, and defined chin. Although, from the side, she noticed his nose wasn't perfect, dented like he had some sort of injury. Nope, not asking. A dead giveaway that she was perving on him.
"What's your car doing here? Why aren't we flying in?" Not that she was complaining because she wasn't, and told him so.
"You could have fooled me."
"Just my curious mind." She flashed him a smile. "Are you supposed to be going this fast?" They were travelling excessively fast. "There's a speed limit?"
