Present Day
"Teddy."
"Teddy!"
I hear someone whisper-yelling my name, just at the crack of dawn. I keep my eyes closed, feeling half asleep and unsure if it's a dream or not.
"Teddy!"
Yep. Not a dream. I open my eyes. It's just Chuck.
"Chuck."
"Yes?"
"Please go away," I say annoyed.
"Please get up!" He says while yanking my arm out of my cot.
I finally sit up and rub my eyes feeling gross and tired. I groggily walk over to my window. "Chuck the sun's barely up," I say while peaking through the thin curtains.
"But a new Greenie is coming today!" He says happily.
"So? That's not for hours."
He sighs sadly. God I love this kid.
"Fine, fine. I suppose I'll come outside. Just let me get dressed."
He leaves me to put my clothes on, plain jeans, a blue shirt with buttons down half way, and a white sweatshirt cardigan thing for warmth. I make sure to grab a book because I know it's gonna be awhile until breakfast. Something I love about books is being able to read into this universe where all your worries and the complications from the outside world are pushed aside, especially since our situation where we've been trapped in the Glade.
I walk outside and take his hand. We both head to the Watch tower and sit underneath a tree near there.
I pull out my book to read. Chuck pulls out a piece of half carved wood and a knife.
"Watcha doing?" I ask, looking down from my book to examine.
"Newt taught me how to carve, I'm working on a something right now."
"What are you making?" Since it isn't completely carved, I can't tell what it was.
He shakes his head. "I wanted to make a penguin, but halfway through I forgot what they looked like. Now I'm not completely sure what it is yet."
"Well," I say, "it's pretty damn good. I like it."
He looks at me and I smile brightly. He smiles back even brighter.
Life in the Glade would be so different without Chuck. He just makes everyone so happy. He tells the funniest stories and is genuinely a fun person to be around. He is one of the few people who make it worth waking up in the morning. Chuck has only been here a month and I've felt like I've known him my whole life, I even felt that way about Newt. That I've known him my whole life too. Who knows? Maybe before the Maze...
I snap back to reality, from hearing our names being called.
"Chuck! Teddy!" I recognize the voice because of the accent.
I look up and Newt's walking towards Chuck and I. He has a huge smile plastered on his, and walks with a limp that can be unbearable to watch at times. He seems so happy to see us, and Chuck is already waving at him and I put on a smile that beams across my face.
He walks over to us and sits in front of us.
"Well your up early," he says with a smile.
"Yeah, well, you can thank Chuck for that," i say while turning to ruffle Chucks hair with a smirk on my face.
