Chapter 5 ➵ the love in the letters.

'We're going to turn Snape's robes pink tonight-you want in?' asked George looking at me with expectant eyes.

'Not tonight guys sorry, I'm uh- busy,' I said looking at Xavier who just hid a smile while doing some DADA research.

'Awww don't be a mood kill Crawforth,' said Fred, leaning onto Geoge's shoulder giving me puppy dog eyes.

I groaned and raised my hands in the air in submission, 'Fine.'

'You won't regret it Crawforth,' Fred called out walking away, and George added, 'We'll make you our evil henchman!' 'You guys will be the henchmen!' I called out, faking offense at his phrase by placing a hand to my chest.

My eyes trailed to Xavier whose eyes were glued to a thick DADA advanced book. 'Why are you doing such heavy work on the first day?' I asked, scrunching my nose up. He just ignored me of course and continued reading.

'Hey, hey, hey Crawforth!' sang Cedric swinging an arm around Xavier's neck, who slightly looked annoyed. 'Malfoy,' he smiled acknowledging his presence and they broke into an argument. How mature.

'Children!' I snapped.

They both looked at me cluelessly and I rolled my eyes and reminded them, 'Let's go, Hagrid's hut, remember?' I said pointing to the permission slip McGonnagal wrote me while we were at Diagon Alley.

Good thing she wrote me this for the snake's well-being, I only needed a third year or up to escort me and that's where Cedric comes in. Maybe he'll know where to look for it.

'Leggo,' I said, turning around and bobbing my head in the direction of the corridor at the to the idiots who were still seated in the library.

'What's that other book in your hand?' I asked Xavier, and he held it up and it read, Pet Name Ideas.

I furrowed my eyebrows together and wondered why he would need such a book.

The morning coolness from the forest was calming, some deer footsteps were heard in the distance, birds were chirping a happy tune up in the canopies of the trees, as we followed Cedric farther into the forest to Hagrid's hut.

It was really peaceful, the forest in the morning was extremely peaceful. The morning due on the grass slightly wet my socks as I passed by, and a few rays of sunlight seeping from the gaps in the treetops kissed our skin. 'It's for name ideas for your snake,' said Xavier, avoiding eye contact with me and following silently behind Cedric.

'How thoughtful of you Malfoy,' joked Cedric, making a pouting face and earning a death glare from Malfoy, then the tranquility was broken as they broke into an argument.

Soon enough we reached Hagrid's hut, a small wooden house, with moss growing in between some of the crevices of the stone roof, and some small stone steps leading up to it. 'Ah, here we are~' called out Cedric from the front, and followed him up the stone steps. He knocked on the oakwood door, and out came a tall, hairy man who let us in, then fixed us three fine cups of tea.

'So, what brings you three here?' he asked, smiling from ear to ear. 'Um, I was kind of hoping you'd know where to look for a missing snake, or have a way to find it,' I said, holding onto my robes tightly, slightly making a crease.

'Oh, lot's of student's snakes and other pets get lost on the first day, and they usually pass through these parts, so I care for them until their owners come looking, er-but I did find an albinos snake roaming around the corridors las' nigh',' he stated, looking at a small ball of ombre pink and white in the corner, wrapped in an animal skin.
