Y/N rolled over on her side and brought a hand to her forehead, massaging it gently. She heard the lull of a conversation near her, but her mind was still pretty clouded. If felt like she was awaking from a hundred year doze.

"Ah, and there's our Sleeping Beauty," Lafayette's light accent drifted to her ears. His English had really been improving.

She forced her eyes open and curled into a ball. "Not awake."

Lafayette chuckled and began to rub her back. "Don't look now," he whispered, "but Alex and Eliza are kissing."

Y/N jerked up, the blood rushing to her eyes, and she looked around frantically. "WHAT?? WHERE???"

Lafayette laughed heartily, and when the static cleared from Y/N's eyes she was disappointed to see that her OTP was not, in fact, kissing. In fact, they weren't even there. Y/N toppled back into the grass and frowned, gazing up at the now darkened sky. "Where are they?" she questioned, failing to hide the edge of worry in her voice.

Lafayette took her hand and ran his thumb over her fingers reassuringly. "Don't worry, mon ange. They've just ventured into town to scope out the area and see if we can find a place to stay and contact the others."

She nodded silently. "I can see Orion," she stated, trying to replace her last memory of seeing the constellation with a better alternative. "How long was I asleep for?"

He shrugged. "Two hours at most. We were over on that hill--" he pointed, "--but when Alexander left with Eliza I decided to move you to a less visible area, lest we be seen. But it is a beautiful night--I preferred to stay under the open sky as long as I didn't see anyone."

"Yes, it is quite wonderful, isn't it?" She agreed. "Though..." She paused for a moment. Dare she ask? She sat up and leaned against the hill behind her. "The last time we saw Orion... who is it that you thought of when you answered my question?"

Lafayette smiled. "It was you, ma chérie, it was always you."

She could hardly believe her ears. What had she been thinking, "there was another girl"?? When all this time it had been her.

Lafayette's gaze suddenly became serious. He seemed to think something over in the span of a moment, but then he took Y/N's hands into his, and she sat up to face him.

"Y/N M/N Mulligan," he started, swallowing thickly. Y/N stilled. "We may have only known each other for seven months, but I know that you are the most important person on this earth to me. I love you more than I could have ever imagined. Y/N, would you allow me to court you?"

Y/N burst into tears. "Oh Laf, I though you would never ask! Yes, yes of course I will!"

The sigh of relief that left his mouth was smothered by her lips crashing onto his.

                                                     ~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~*~

Alexander and Eliza strolled back to the clearing, hand in hand, each happier than they'd ever been. Eliza was squealing internally--she couldn't wait to tell Y/N the news! They did have a lot to catch up on, at least, especially about what happened at the ball.

They spotted Lafayette and Y/N at the bottom of the hill near the edge of the forest. Sharing a grin, they raced to the bottom, and the girls squealed audibly when they crashed into each other.

      "GUESS WHAT!"

"You first," Eliza giggled. Y/N could barely contain herself, and she held up her and Lafayette's entwined hands.

      "We're courting!"

"WHAT?!" Eliza and Alex gasped. Eliza clapped a hand to her mouth and held up her other hand. "We're engaged!"

"WHAT?!!" Y/N and Lafayette shouted. Y/N let go of his hand an the two girls crashed into each other, crying and laughing and hugging. Alex and Lafayette shared a look of disbelief and then clapped their hands on each others backs.

"No wonder you didn't want to come," Alex laughed. "I didn't know you had it in you!"

Lafayette punched him lightly. "It's not like you would have let me come, brother, if that --" he gestured to the ring that Eliza was showing to Y/N, "--is what you had planned!"

They headed back over to the girls, who were still excitedly chattering, and motioned to the village that was distantly visible in the distance. "You two can keep talking, if you like, while we make our way over there. Eliza's family friend is going to take us in, and there's a post office nearby," Alex explained.

The girls were barely listening, but they nodded affirmatively and followed after the boys when they began to walk towards the road.

This was a night they weren't going to forget as long as they lived.
