Y/N Mulligan's heart raced as she hurried to her brother's shop. It was nearly noon, and she had woken up way too late. If she didn't reach there soon, she feared her brother would leave without her. It wasn't very ladylike, but at this point Y/N was fed up with the required attire she had donned that morning, despite normally loving dresses. Besides, she thought, she was going to need a more suitable outfit for moving around once she joined the war.
She burst into the shop, nearly running into a customer. "Sorry ma'am!" she cried, but made no move to slow down. She caught herself on the counter, where her brother was sketching new dress designs for the winter season.
"Am I too late?" Y/N breathed. Hercules merely chuckled.
"Be more careful next time, will you? I don't need to lose customers over your clumsiness."
Y/N rolled her eyes. "Sorry. I did make it on time, though, right?"
Her brother nodded. "I was just closing up. Turn the sign over, will you?"
Hercules closed up the register and Y/N stepped over to the window to flip the sign to "closed". Locking the door, she set her knapsack down on a chair and followed her brother into one of the fitting rooms.
Y/N changed out of her Y/F/C day gown while Herc fetched the more breathable dress he had fashioned. When he brought it out Y/N gasped.
"Functional and fashionable," Herc grinned. "Just like you requested."
Y/N held up her new dress. It was white, made with soft cotton, so it would be easy to wash. Herc had even made a Y/F/C apron and handkerchief for her hair. The skirt was just below Y/N's knees so she could move freely. Hopping down from the stand, Y/N embraced her brother tightly.
"Thanks, Herc," she said. Her brother always knew the right way to make her feel important.
Hercules put his hands on his hips. "So. Are we ready to go join the fight for freedom?"
Y/N grinned, hoisted her knapsack over her shoulder, and headed for the door.
"Last one to the tavern is a Tory!" she shouted, and her brother shook his head, then took off after his revolutionary sister.
