Chapter Nine

The following Monday, I'm feeling much better, having rested so well during the weekend. Mid-afternoon, it began raining and that made me nostalgic. I love the sound of rain.

Unfortunately, it didn't stop by the time we can clock out. I stayed behind to finish a few more tasks I wasn't able to do in the last week. Very few people were inside when I walked through the door. I stood on the threshold, thinking what I should do. Find a car through Grab. As I was taking my phone out, the wind blew hard and the rain redirected towards the building entrance. I should've gone inside. I shivered as I shook off some rain drops.

"What are you doing?" Kurt asked as I turned around. Amazingly, he sounded a bit incredulous and curious. Not his typical bored tone.

"I got rained on." I muttered as I tried to dry off my arms. I searched my bag for a handkerchief. I groaned when I didn't find one.

"Here." He offered me his, and his tone is back to nonchalant.

I took it. I'm feeling too cold. "Thanks." I opened the handkerchief and dried myself with it. Mainly my arms and face.

"I'll return it to you later." I told him. It isn't proper to give it back to him after I used it, without washing it. He only grunted. I dried my phone, too, and continued with the booking. He saw it. He had his phone out, too, and it dinged with a notification.

"You go first."

"What?" I looked up at him. A man with an umbrella called to him from outside.

"This is the ride I booked. You can take it. Go home and change your clothes. You'll get sick again at this rate." That's probably the longest line of words I heard from him. I almost grinned.

"I already made a booking, though."

"I'll take that one."

I turned to see the waiting driver.

Kurt reached out to push me forward. He explained the situation to the driver. I'm glad he did have an umbrella. He's prepared. I'll give him five stars.

I turned to call out my thanks to Kurt. Amazingly, he waved it away.

That night, I have had hope that Kurt might have feelings for me, too. He showed care. That made me fall in love with him more. The next few days, I feel like we've gotten much closer, despite the lack of lengthy conversations. Three sentences from him feels like a whole novel. Okay, that's an exaggeration. You know what I mean.
