I waited for the person on the other end to respond.

"I'm Morgan Johnson. I'm a good friends of your moms."

I felt knots form in my stomach from hearing the mention of my mom.

"What about her?" I asked.

The other end was hesitant before speaking. "Your mom got in a car accident from drinking and driving."

I was speechless. Not that I was super surprised or anything.

But I thought my mom was done with drugs.

"Is she okay?" I asked.

"Yes. She's just fine. But she keeps asking to see you...she doesn't really remember anything." Morgan said.

I didn't really know what to say next.

I turned around to see Lucas looking in my direction curiously and I turned around.

"I have to go. But... I just have one question. How'd you find this number?" I asked.

"I just looked up your number from the phone book, I promise I'm not stalking you."

I laughed lightly and Morgan gave me her number so I could call her back.

I put down the phone and took a deep breath.

I headed back to the living room and grabbed my cell phone.

"Who was that?" Riley asked, entering the room.

I didn't want to lie, but I didn't exactly want to tell them.

"It was umm... My old friends from my old school in Colorado." I lied.

Lucas raised an eyebrow. "Any guys?"

Riley rolled her eyes at her older brother and I smiled. "yep. One of them was pretty cute."

Lucas made a face and clenched his fists together.

Riley gave me a low high five and I simply said, "calm down ranger rick! All the boys there were stupid."

Lucas smiled at me. "Ranger rick. It's been awhile since you called me that."

I returned a smile. "I know."

Riley stepped in the middle of us and said, "no PDA in front of me please."

"No promises." Lucas said jokingly.

I looked at him. "Okay your gross!"

Riley groaned and dramatically fell to the couch. "Why do I live with you two."

Lucas put his arm around Riley, which annoyed her.

"Don't worry sis, three more years until you can officially move out."

"What about you?" I asked him.

He laughed out loud. "Please I'm not going anywhere."

--------
"Okay. But why out of all guys you like my brother?" Riley asked me.

We were setting the table for dinner and Riley was scolding me at the moment.

"Most of the boys in our grade are idiots." I said.

"I have to agree with you on that."

I set down a fork and spoon. "Besides,
Lucas is really kind if you get to know him."

Riley held a hand up. "I've known him for 15 years! Not pleasant!"

I just chuckled and suddenly there was a knock at the door.

"I'll get it!" Riley said, even though she was the only one in the room besides me.

"Who's that?" I asked.

She answered the door and I saw who it was.

Brittany Smith. Who was Riley's recent friend.

Don't tell anyone, but I don't like Brittany. At all.

When I say don't tell anyone, I mean Riley.

She's kinda a know it all and brat but eh whatever.

"Hey riles!" She exclaimed.

They hugged and then walked over to me.

"Maya can you finish without me? I promise I'll repay you." She said.

"I guess so..."

"Great!"

Riley and Britney went off to Riley's bedroom and I grabbed the plates.

I remembered that I should probably call Morgan back later.

But, I'll push it to another day.
