Chapter 13

The front door opened and i looked up from the book i was reading.

It was Lucas, who was dragging his stuff behind him.

I stood up quickly from my chair. "Lucas you're here!"

I ran over to him and hugged him out of nowhere.

He must've lost his balance because he leaned backward but then caught himself.

"Maya, I missed you too." He said, hugging me slightly.

I let go of him and laughed awkwardly. "I'm sorry, it was just so boring here without you."

Lucas put his stuff on the couch and looked around. "where is everyone?"

"Parents, working. I don't know where Riley is." I said, sitting on a chair.

I noticed Lucas didn't sit down, but i ignored it.

"So how was it?" I asked him.

Lucas shrugged. "I told you. It sucked."

I just laughed at him. "At least you're here now."

Lucas was silent and looked down at his feet, avoiding eye contact.

I then stood up. "Okay, whats up?"

Lucas looked back up. "I have bad news."

I blinked. "I think i can handle it..."

"I have to go away for another camp. We have more games." Lucas said, letting out a sigh.

I felt my heart sink. "What?! You're gonna leave me alone again?"

Lucas came closer to me and held both my hands with his.

"I'm sorry Maya. I wish i didn't have to go but i have to."

I was silent and just looked down at our hands connecting.

Lucas spoke up. "On the bright side, this place has better cell service."

I just shrugged and continued looking down at the floor.

Lucas lifted my chin up so our eyes were now locked.

"I'll be back soon."

He slowly leaned over and kissed my right cheek.

He then walked out the door again, leaving me alone.

I felt my cheek where he kissed me and just smiled a little.

He will be back soon.

A few hours later, i heard the front door open and felt my heart jump.

It wasn't Lucas though, it was just Riley.

I looked back down at my book, which i was almost finished with.

I heard Riley's footsteps enter the kitchen and then stop.

I slowly looked up to see her looking at me, crossing her arms.

"May i help you?" I said politely.

Riley took a deep breath. "You won't believe what i found out this past week."

"What?"

Riley let out a sigh. "Brittany and Missy are like best friends."

I suddenly stood up quickly and let out a overdramatic gasp.

"What?! I knew it!!"

I looked at Riley to realize i had said that out loud.

I slowly sat down in my chair. "I'm sorry."

Riley looked confused. "Why are you sorry? Missy is actually cool."

I stared at her. "You're joking."

Riley nodded. "Yeah, we are all gonna go to the mall tomorrow."

I then stood up and walked over to Riley, putting my hand on her shoulder.

"Don't do this to yourself." I said.

Riley took my hand off her shoulder. "Maya it's fine! You should really give Missy a second chance or something. She's cool."

I watched as Riley walked away from the kitchen and i sat down in the chair, facepalming myself in the face.
