The morning after the night before had been an unfamiliar experience to Lola. She had become acclimatised to awakening to a cold, empty bed and being not so subtly encouraged to leave her lover's home. Upon relating these past experiences with Jack to Alex, he was horrified that she had endured him for so long.

While Alex had taken the role of cooking the two breakfast, Lola had donned his sky blue Lacoste, which somehow still smelled of its original owner. Musky aftershave, cigarettes and something else that was just Alex. Alternatively, heaven.

When Lola had walked into the kitchen dressed like this, she was met by the sight of Alex stood holding a frying pan, dressed only in his boxers from the previous night. She smiled at the sight of him and he returned the gesture at the sight of her.

"I told you that shirt looks better on you than it did me. Although, I think it'd look even better on your bedroom floor," Alex teased with a wink.

Lola had flashed him her middle finger, but couldn't help the smile that rose to her lips.

She didn't exactly know what her and Alex's relationship was currently. They definitely weren't dating, as neither had dared mention the words boyfriend and girlfriend - the horror! - but they had both confessed that they liked each other. It was confusing. Lola thought it was ridiculous that she was so afraid to ask, and she instantly felt like a teenager again wondering if Christian Jones from her English liked her enough to be her boyfriend, but fearing to ask.

You aren't seventeen anymore, Lola, she told herself, Just ask him.

But be it due to nerves or pride, she had, instead, let the morning flew by without daring to ask. She and Alex had spent the time until midday watching trashy morning TV shows - Good Morning Britain was pure, undiluted garbage, but she hadn't been bothered enough to change the channel - until he decided he should probably leave. So, leaning down and pressing a kiss against Lola's forehead and then curling his forefinger, placing it under her chin and raising her lips to his, Alex left her apartment.

"Until the next time," he had whispered.

Lola had nodded with a smile. "Until the next time."

Later in the day, after Alex had left, Elowen returned. This was a relief to Lola, whose mind was brimming with emotions and who was in desperate need to tell somebody, namely her roommate. The two friends sat down on the settee together, smiling.

"Did you have a good night, last night?" Lola enquired.

Elowen beamed. "It was great actually. We watched some old rom-coms and Miles really got into them. He promised that when the opportunity presents itself, he'll do the Dirty Dancing lift with me."
