Returning to the table, Alex and Lola seated themselves down opposite a beaming Miles and Elowen. The established couple shared a knowing glance, grinning like schoolchildren.

With a smirk, El turned to look at Alex and Lola. "So, you two have been gone a while... I guess you got on quite well." She bit her lip in excitement.

Miles nodded in agreement. "Yeah, seems like you two get on really well. Who would have thought my lanky, greasy git of a best mate would end up dating our Lola, eh?"

"We aren't dating you, dick," Alex laughed. "Bloody hell, it's hardly been an hour."

"Miles always has been one to move at the speed of Greased Lightning," Lola mused, "Plus, this isn't a date. I don't want anybody new after the complete catastrophe my last relationship turned out to be and it turns out Alex doesn't want anybody either. This night couldn't have turned out any better really."

Elowen sighed. "I guess you really didn't want to come, Lola. I just thought I'd be helping you find somebody new. I'm sorry for dragging you here."

Nonchalantly, Lola shrugged and placed a crisp into her mouth from the middle of the table. "I get steak and chips and I'm rid of men, so it's a win-win situation really."

"I'm sure the right man will come along one day and tie you down, Lola."

Miles laughed at his girlfriend's comment. "I'd like to see him try. There's no man on this Earth who could ever tame down Lola. To tie her down, they'd quite literally need an industrial strength rope and some duck tape." He winked at her. "They don't know who they're dealing with."

Lola grinned.

"And, until this right bloke comes along," Miles continued, "I'll punch every single one of these lads who dares break your heart."

"I'll second that," Alex chimed in. "I'm always more than happy to introduce some cheating dickhead to my right fist."

Echoes of 'hear, hear' filled the table, followed by the clinking of glasses.

After allowing a substantial about of red wine to flow down her throat, Lola smiled. "Well, it's nice to know I've got you lads to look after me, but you don't need to worry too much. If a guy ever cheats on me again, I'm more than happy to give him the same treatment Jack received. A solid kick to the cock and balls."

The table of four erupted into laughter, as the waitress arrived with the food. She placed the porcelain plates of freshly cooked cuisine in front of each person and left.
