by the time they had defeated thanos, scott lang had decided that life was too short to wait for what he wanted. a few months after attending tony's funeral, scott had bought a ring and was preparing to propose to hope. he took her out to her favorite restaurant and, with hank hiding and filming, he got down on one knee. hope laughs, "scott, get off the floor." he pulls the ring box out of his pocket, "hope, i'm... i know that we haven't technically been together that long, although it's really been, like, six and half years, we weren't actually present for it. but for the entire time we were apart, i was thinking about you. during the battle with thanos, i couldn't stop thinking about what would happen to me if something happened to you." he takes a deep breath and continues his practiced speech, "what i'm really trying to say is that, life is too short. i don't want to spend another day without you if i can help it. hope van dyne, will you do me the honor of marrying me?" he opens the box and hope gasps, "scott, you idiot. of course i'll marry you." "oh, thank god. i was afraid you were going to say no," scott laughs, as he slips the ring on her finger.•2024•
the wedding was small, but beautiful. the audience only had about six people. scott invited his ex wife and her husband, maggie and jim, as well as his 'best superhero friends', bucky barnes and sam wilson. his daughter, cassie, was the flower girl and his best friend, luis, was his best man. hope's parents, hank and janet, were in attendance and her maid of honor was ava, who she had gotten close to as her and her mother were helping her with her condition. instead of a reception, they all headed back to their house after the ceremony. they all entertain one another for a little while. they eat, they drink, they laugh. later in the evening, scott puts on 'their song' and holds out his hand to hope. "may i have this dance, my lady?" hope laughs, taking his hand and they have their first dance as husband and wife to "hero" by enrique iglesias, which scott thought was hilarious, considering their status as superheroes. after the first verse, everyone joins in. janet dances with hank, jim and maggie, ava dances around with cassie so neither of them would be alone, sam and bucky dance together, and luis dances by himself. by the end of the song, everyone is hysterical at luis' dancing. scott catches his breath and smiles at the family he's found. he used to think he was alone, but he knows now that these people are there for him and care. that makes him feel warm and secure.•2026•
scott can't help the tears rolling down his face as he watches his daughter get her diploma and walk across the stage. "go, cassie," they all scream as she switches her tassel. they take alot of pictures and then go to maggie's house for her graduation party. "there are more people here then there were at our wedding," scott jokes, looking around at all of maggie and bill's coworkers in attendance, as well as a few of cassie's school friends. luis is there, of course, but he's the only one scott invited. he awkwardly makes conversation with other guests and, after a few hours, they're the only people left.they stay to help clean up and he and hope are in the kitchen doing dishes when scott clears his throat, "hey, hope?" "yeah?" she says, drying a plate. "how do you feel about maybe having kids?" hope studies scott, trying to figure out if he's serious or not. "i'm dead serious," he answers her unspoken question. hope's face breaks into a smile, "i would love to have kids with you some day." "some day soon?" he perks up. "how soon?" she smirks, making him laugh. "like as soon as we get home, soon," he raises an eyebrow at her and they both laugh. it's silent for a few more minutes and then scott speaks again, "i just feel like i missed so much in her life. i missed years of her life early on while i was in jail. obviously, she turned out fine, perfectly fine, but i missed five more years and now she's graduated high school? i didn't think i would want anymore kids after cassie, but i want another chance. to be there." hope smiles softly at scott, "i want you to have that chance."

hope and scott have been trying for years to get pregnant. each time ended in heartbreak and they didn't know what was the problem or where else to turn. eventually, they went to a specialist and found out that hope was infertile. she cried the whole way home and went to bed as soon as they got there. scott let her be for a few hours, knowing that hope liked to be alone when she was ready upset. later, he went up to their room and brought her some dinner. she was laying in bed, asleep. he shook her gently and she opened her eyes to see her husband, grinning with a plate of slightly burnt eggs. she couldn't help the laughter that exploded out of her. after a long few seconds, she caught her breath."i love you so much, scott. i'm sorry that i can't give you what you want," she sighs and her shoulders droop. "hey, hey," he sets the plate of food on her lap and wraps his arm around her, "listen, it's okay. it's not your fault." they sit in comfortable silence on the bed for a few minutes, hope eating the food that scott made for her. "these eggs are surprisingly good," she says and they both laugh. "why don't we adopt?" scott says, suddenly, "i don't know why i didn't think of that before! there are so many children in the foster system that need homes." hope's eyes brighten and she leans over and kisses her husband, "that's an amazing idea."

"mr. lang, your criminal record is quite concerning," mr. linn says and scott holds back an eye roll. "i understand that much, mr. linn. but i've reformed," scott says to the social worker. mr. linn sighs, "you need more references than your ex-wife, mr. lang." "not to namedrop, sir, but i know captain america. i'll call him right now, if i have to," scott pulls out his phone and dials sam's number. "that's not necessary, mr. lang. just have the captain write a letter of recommend-" "hey, scott," mr. linn is cut off by sam speaking. "oh, hey, captain america," scott launches into an explanation of the situation and mr. linn sits in shock. "oh, i understand," sam says. "here's my letter of recommendation, mr. linn. scott is the best father i know and the funniest and most loyal friend a captain could ever ask for. he's also an avenger. we catch criminals, how much more reformed can he get?" scott laughs, "thanks, sam." he hangs up and looks at mr. linn, "so, can we have a kid or not?" "i'll have to talk to some people, but i'm sure we can work something out," mr. linn is still in shock. "thank you very much, mr. linn," scott is satisfied with himself.he and hope stand up to leave but mr. linn clears his throat, causing them to turn back around, "mr. lang, do you think that you could get the captain's signature for me? i'm a big fan." scott smirks. "i'm sure i can work something out," he echoes his words back to him and they leave. later that day, scott gets a call from mr. linn saying they've been approved to foster. a week later, he and hope go back to mr. linn's office to meet the kid they will be fostering. a three year old named stella. she's small and quiet but she immediately takes to hope. they sign the paperwork and, as they are leaving, scott sets a folder on the social worker's desk. mr. linn opens it and inside is one crisp photo of sam wilson, with the signature "captain america" scrawled across it.

stella, now five, has been with the langs for two and a half years. she has grown to trust and love them and she's met the rest of their family many times. it's almost christmas time and hope and scott decide that now is the time to ask stella if she would like to be adopted by them. they sit her down between them after they put up the christmas tree and hope begins speaking, "stella, my love, you know how much scott and i love you an-" "i love you too," stella interrupts excitedly and both scott and hope laugh. "we love you very much," scott says, continuing where hope left off, "we want to adopt you. not much would change for now, just your last name." stella's last name is phillips, but she's always resented that it was different from scott and hope's. "i want a different last name," she says, pouting, "i want your last name." "you can have it!" hope laughs softly, "but it'll be more than that, stel. we will be your parents, for good. forever. like how we are cassie's parents, even though she is old. are you sure you like us enough for that?" "yes, i'm sure," stella answers immediately and hope scoops her up in a hug. "i love you, mom," stella laughs, then gives scott and kiss on the cheek, "and you too, dad."•2034•
they throw a party to celebrate the finalization of stella's adoption. it reminds scott of their wedding party almost ten years earlier. small and beautiful, just like their family. stella preformed a few songs for the crowd and when she was done, she bowed. everyone laughed and scott held his daughter close in a hug. he pulled cassie and hope into it and they all sat on the couch, in a hug, for at least a few minutes. after the party was over, stella was drawing at the coffee table in the living room. "what are you drawing, babe?" scott sat on the couch behind her, ruffling her hair. "just a picture of my family," she hummed and handed it to him as she finished up. "that's so good," scott said with tears in his eyes. she drew all of them, cassie, luis, bucky and sam, ava, hank, and janet, and bill and maggie, with scott, hope, and stella in the middle. "its beautiful, stel. i'm going to frame it," scott laughed, putting it up on the refrigerator.\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\\
