~this oneshot takes place between the grom episode and the finale of s1. enjoy!~

even with all of their magic combined, it took luz, amity, and eda hours to defeat the monster that they had accidentally unleashed earlier in the day. it was a huge threat that luz knew they could not fight on their own so luz went to grab amity while eda lured the beast into the forest so it couldn't hurt anyone in town. at some point in the battle, luz had been taken underneath the giant paw of the monster. amity screamed and eda quickly used her magic to lift its paw and ushered amity to retrieve luz. amity pulled an unconscious luz to a nearby tree, checking her pulse and sighing in relief when she felt her heart beat. "luz, look at me," amity shook luz gently and she stirred a bit. "amity, you need to come help me. i'm sorry," eda yells, struggling to fight the creature. amity's eyes fill with tears and she kisses her hand, swiping it over luz's forehead, "stay here, i'll be back soon." she blinks away the tears and stands back up, ready to fight again.

by the time they defeat the beast, sending it back to its dimension, luz is half awake and in pain. she can breath okay and her heart rate feels mostly normal, to her surprise. despite this, she can't move her body and she's fading in and out of consciousness. eda and amity run over and lift luz up between them. "luz, can you walk?" eda asks, alarmed. luz tries to stand up, but immediately realizes that her foot or leg is injured badly. "no, i can't walk," she chokes out, "i think my leg is hurt." "okay, that's okay. keep your weight off of it, we need to get back to the house," amity reassures luz, looking up to eda at the end of the sentence. eda nods and they use magic to assist them in their return.

back at the house, amity has luz propped up in the bathroom. "okay, what hurts?" amity looks at luz expectedly. "my leg? i don't know about anything else," luz's tone is unsure, but amity immediately gets to work, carefully pushing luz's black leggings up to reveal a bleeding gash on her leg. luz and amity wince simultaneously and amity gets closer, inspecting the wound. she pokes the skin around it and luz gasps, "ouch!" "sorry," amity says, sheepishly, and reaches for the first aid kit. "it's okay, it helped me wake up some," luz said, partly because her vision wasn't fading in and out anymore and partly because she didn't want amity to feel sorry. she and eda saved her life back there and luz was grateful. she just didn't know how to express her feelings in this moment.

after what felt like hours of pulling and examining, luz's leg was finally cleaned and wrapped up. "done!" amity proudly proclaimed, standing up. luz was fully awake by this time, but they had remained silent the whole time. "can you stand? i'm sure eda is wondering how you're doing," amity cocks her eyebrow, reaching for luz's hand. luz smiles slightly, carefully pushing her leggings over the bandages. she grabs amity hand and pulls herself up slowly. she stands, putting all of her weight on the other leg before shifting. she winces, but remains balanced. "i think i'm okay," she looks at amity, blushing when she realizes that she is still holding her hand. amity looks down at their hands as well and blushes before wrapping her arm around luz's waist. this makes luz blush even harder. "let's go find eda," amity says, guiding luz slowly to the bathroom door.

they hear eda in her study, presumably incanting. amity heard her say something about reinforcing the portal that the monster came through when they were carrying luz to the bathroom, but she was too preoccupied with luz's injuries to really take note. luz slips out of amity's arm, leaning against the opposite wall. amity reaches up to knock on eda's door before luz grasps her hand, stopping her. "wait! can we talk for a sec?" luz asks, causing amity to turn around. "are you okay?" amity's voice is filled with concern. "i'm okay," luz smiles and amity joins her in leaning against the wall. "what's up, then?" amity asks, pushing a strand of hair behind her ear. "just... thank you for saving me back there," luz sighs, thinking about how scared she was and how lucky she is. "eda did most of the work," amity looks down at her hands. once again, luz intertwines their fingers, rubbing over amity's knuckles with her thumb. amity looks up at luz, a faint blush gracing her cheeks. "is this okay?" luz asks, nodding towards their intertwined hands. amity nods, gently squeezing luz's hands. they are silent for a few moments before luz speaks again, "amity... c-can i kiss you?" amity is taken aback by the request, "do you... like me, luz?" luz gulps, nodding, with her dark brown eyes trained on amity amber ones. "i like you too," amity confesses before leaning in to kiss luz. it was just a quick peck, but it was enough to make both girls smile giddily at each other.

"you two!" the girls jump apart at eda's voice echoing the halls. "e-eda, hi," luz waves, nervously. "you two are too cute," she laughs, eyeing them. both girls blush, looking at each other and then the floor. "luz, i told you not to get too close to that monster, you almost gave me a heart attack," eda exclaims, scooping luz into a hug. "i know, eda, i'm sorry. i'll be more careful next time," luz grumbles into eda's shoulder. "you could have died," she groans, "your mother would kill me." luz feels her heart squeeze at the mention of her mother and resolves to text her later. luz is set back on the floor and she reaches for amity's hand. "do you want to do something?" luz asks, implying a date of some sort. "you can't do anything until that leg heals," amity laughs. "let's stay here, then," luz says, excitedly, "we can practice our magic!"

"it's a date," amity teases and they both blush.
