Fundy POV
Everything hurt. His back. His legs. His face. Sharp pricks of pain in his chest appeared with every breath he took. He opened his eyes suddenly. He was in a warm bed in an unfamiliar room. The walls were light grey. He sat up quickly and groaned as his head started to buzz. What had happened?
Then the fragment of memory came back to him. A brief glimpse of a blurry face. A harsh voice throwing insults at him. Pain. Blood. Fear.
"Oh thank god you're awake!" A familiar voice exclaimed.
Fundy's head snapped in the direction of the voice. He winced and rubbed his neck as it started to ache.
A tall boy was sitting in a chair beside the bed. His hair was a flurry mess and his eyes had dark circles under them. Though the rest of his face looked exhausted, his eyes told a different story, sparkling with relief and... happiness? Who was this guy, anyway?
"I'm sorry... who are you again?" Fundy asked, confused. He had no memory of ever seeing this person before. The boy stood up and walked over to him, kneeling in front of him. The stranger studied his face for a moment. Then he sighed.
"You really don't remember me?"
"No, I'm sorry."
"Do you remember my name, or anything like that?"
His name? It started with an A... or an E... something like that. Aaron? Evan?
"It starts with an E, right? That's all I remember."
"Does Eret spark any memories?" The boy asked. Fundy picked up hints of worry in his voice.
Then something clicked in his mind. Oh, yes, he knew this guy! Eret. That was his name.
Fundy broke into a wide smile.
"Yeah, dude, I remember you. How could I forget?" He thought for a moment, a puzzled expression coming over his face. How did he forget? "I must just be tired."
Eret sighed with relief and smiled too. "You had me worried there for a minute."
"So... where am I exactly?" Fundy asked, looking around the room.
"You're at my house."
Fundy looked at Eret with a confused expression.
"Um, would you mind explaining? I don't remember anything."
Eret nodded with a comforting smile.
"So I was going home from practice and I went to grab my skateboard, as usual. But I found 2 skateboards in the tree, one mine and the other yours. That's when I knew something was up. So I walked back into school to go look for you and walked around for like 15 or so minutes. I was about to give up when I heard you. I followed your voice and found you lying on the floor with a shitload of bruises and cuts and stuff. I took you back to my house where my mom proceeded to have a fit when she saw your condition and decided you should stay with us for a couple days until you heal."
"Wait... did you say a couple days?"
"Yep."
Fundy nodded slowly, thinking.
"So how long have I been out?"
"Since I found you... about a day and a half."
Fundy was shocked. "That long?!"
"Yeah. Well, you were beaten up pretty badly."
Fundy started to rise, but his legs gave out and he stumbled back onto the bed.
"Oh, here, let me help you." Eret said, walking over to the bed.
Eret offered his hand out and Fundy grasped it. Eret pulled him to a near standing position. Fundy couldn't help but notice the rippling muscles in Eret's arm, exposed by the short sleeves of his shirt. Fundy's knees gave out again and he fell back onto the bed. This time with Eret on top of him.
The two stayed there for a moment, both in too much shock to move. Fundy looked into Eret's eyes as Eret gazed into his. Only their hands separated them. Fundy felt Eret's warm breath graze his cheek. Both of their cheeks were bright red and hot.
Eret POV
The last rays of sunlight fell through the thin curtains, illuminating the boy beneath him in a soft glow. His eyes were golden; his hair a deep caramel. His cheeks were pink and lightly dusted with freckles. The eye contact Eret held with Fundy seemed to hold sparks of electricity. The world seemed to stand still.
Eret's heart acted quicker than his brain did. Eret leaned his head down, slowly guiding his lips to meet Fundy's own. He saw Fundy raise himself up a tiny bit to meet him.
Their lips collided in a light, loving motion. Eret closed his eyes and put a hand behind Fundy's head. He felt Fundy's hand tangle in his hair, fingering through the strands. Their lips parted for a breath then almost instantly met again. Eret was in heaven as he kissed the boy he had been concealing his feelings from for the past months they had known each other.
Then footsteps could be heard and they quickly untangled themselves from each other. Eret quickly sat back down in his chair and Fundy quickly buried himself under the bed covers and closed his eyes, hoping to look asleep. Eret closed his eyes also, feigning rest to the person would soon enter the room.
Eret heard his door creak open and someone walked in quietly. Through squinted eyes he could faintly see his mother watching the two of them. She had a small smile on her face. She walked over to where Eret was sitting and kissed him on the forehead. She walked over to Fundy and studied him for a moment. Then she quietly padded out of the room again.
Eret opened his eyes when he thought she was gone. Fundy did the same. The two looked at each other with small smiles and pink cheeks.
