Chapter 6: New People, More Fun

                     We have to do something... We've got to do something...                                                              

It was afternoon. Lunch time. A simple canned food will extinguish our starvation. Along with a cooked rice, It was better. Eating in a round-shaped table with a glass counter top. After eating, I sat on a rocking chair (because that's where I'm comfortable at) beside the terrace. Listening to the beats of life, chirps of birds, and the moans of the corpses brought back to life. I don't know what happened, but they've just appeared out of nowhere, and suddenly attacking and eating people. We've got to do something. Or else we're going to die. We can't keep this place safe. Unless we have more people, people we can trust. Yes. We have to find people. But they can't be trusted. I don't know what to do.         

Coffee?                                                                                                                                       I came back to realization when I heard Empress' voice.                                            

Wha-? Oh it's just you. I grabbed the coffee.  Thank you, Empress.                         

No problem. But wait, What were you thinking?                                                           

Wait, what? I was thinking nothing. I was joking around.                                            

Haha yeah you were! What was it?                                                                                   

Ohh...It was....POOP!!! HAHAHA! 

Funny...                                                                                                                                  

Funny? huh? It was funny! Hahaha!                                                                                 

Laugh. I almost forgot what it sound like. But it's better to get off the reality once. Forget that those corpses walk, or our parents missing.                                 

Mental note: Enjoy the little things                                                                                    

Hahahaha!  Empress couldn't resist the urge to laugh, so she laughed too      

Hey Hey, what are you two laughing about? Saira went in to join our conversation.                             Hey, you know Saira, what am I thinking about? Oh I think it's gonna be a horrible joke. What?                                                                                                                                           It... Was... POOP!!! HAHAHAHA! Very Funny, Chris! Ha.ha.ha. Just joking! Hahahahah! Hahahaha!           

Despite the trouble we might get because we're too loud, we ignored it. We're having fun. And nothing's gonna stop us. Imagine, who's happy when you're having fun with your friends and someone destroyed it? Not okay, right?

Darkness surrounds the neighborhood. Corpses walkind aroung the village. And us, here on the barricaded-covered terrace. They can't see us, but we can see them. Saira was asleep as she was exhausted for cleaning the house. It was just me and Empress who's here on the terrace. She spoke to me.

Chris?Yes, Empress?  I wondered.

Nothing. I just miss you. We were sitting beside each other, looking at each other.

Oh, I miss you too, Empress. I kissed her forehead. For her maybe it was just a kiss, but for me it was a kiss that means she's really important to me. I would do anything to protect her. I sworn to protect her at all cost, no matter what.

I grabbed her face, I closed my face to hers, and then kissed her. 

She looked surprise because I kissed her but a few seconds away, she kissed me back.

I ended the kiss, but still grabbing her face.

I will protect you, Empress. At all cost. No matter what. I mean it

Really, Chris? Thank you...Then she hugged me. I hugged her back.

She went to the bedroom with Saira. And me, still here at the terrace, guarding the place. We might be overrun by those corpses. I'm always stayin up late even when this apocalypse was not here. Remember, I was a gamer, always sleeping late. And there are circumstances I didn't sleep just to play. I remember it all, before this apocalypse broke out. Not long, I started to feel the desire for sleeping. I went inside, prepared my things, then rolled the carpet on the floor (Yes, this is where I'm sleeping) then rested my body. Man, it was a pretty rough day. I needed to rest. Then suddenly, my consciousness is fading. I fell asleep.

Hours passed, Light struck through the windows, the breeze of morning woke me up. I was the first one to woke up. It was 6 am. I went to the terrace. My eyes locked on the corpses outside. I gathered my weapons (the hidden blade) and went outside. I killed a bunch of corpses around the village. I swayed my bat, pierced my blade through they're head. After killing a bunch of them, I went to the mart, just in front of our village. I went in. It looks abandoned, but its supplies are bountiful. I gathered as much as I can and put it in my bag. But I sensed that someone is here. I walked around the store cabinets, I heard foot steps. I think they're two. Two people. I made sure it was not a walker who was following me. And I stand corrected. It was not a zombie because of its footsteps. I followed the footsteps, I was shocked, surprised, and awakened when I saw Shauna and Kaylyn, our friends.

 Shauna? Kaylyn? Is that... You? 
I asked them. I can't clearly see them, but I know their figure. It's definitely Shauna and Kaylyn.
Is it really you?
How... How do you know us? Kaylyn asking like a confused woman. Who are you?
It's me, Chris! 
Chris? Chris what? Chris Alberts? 
She was hesitating and looked confused. I can see her even if its dark here. My eyes has blended in the dark, thus making it available for me to see in the dark.
Yes! It's me. Chris! 
I'm glad I saw them. I've never seen any of my friends since this break-out started. And it's gonna be fun if we're with Shauna and Kaylyn coz' they were our best friends. They belong in our group before this apocalypse. They were the type of people that always laugh, make jokes, trip on people. They are funny. They are the-- joker or something. Let's put it that you can have a lot of fun when you're with them.
Who's with you? Where'd have you gone since the apocalypse? I've never seen you after that incident in the school. 
I was really worried about them. I'm happy that they survived.
It's just us, Chris. We survived for days. We've just avoided the dead. That's how we survived.
Well, it's good to see you, but you should come with me. We're currently holding up at Saira's house.
Is Saira alive? Shauna looked excited and so was Kaylyn. They're the two bestfriends of Saira. 
Yeah she is. And so was Empress. Come on. Come with me. It's not safe here. Let's go.
We went back to the house. I saw Empress. She's awake and so was Saira. They were chatting. Sitting on a wood-polished bench. It was 8 o'clock in the morning.  Empress saw me and the two people behind me.
Chris! Where have you've been? We're worried about you. And who's the two people behind you? Empress and Saira looked puzzled and looked wondering.
It's us! It's us! Kaylyn shouted despite of we might get trouble and attract corpses. Maybe she was just too excited to see their bestfriend alive.
Is that...? I can see Saira's face. Her face somehow became clear upon hearing those voices. Somehow, she recognized those voices. After all, they made a nice memory of theirs in our minds, so how can we forget them?
It's Shauna and Kaylyn!! Empress shouted too. She was, too, excited upon seeing them alive and safe. Upon reaching each other, they hugged tightly as if there were no tomorrows. Well, I'm glad they're alive and safe.
