Chapter 13: New Found Respect

We were still in the tree, waiting for the corpses to pass through. Still, we gazed at each other's eyes. I lifted my right hand, touched her soft, delicious lips. Then, I stroked her cheeks, closes my face to hers, gazed at her bright eyes, and...

I love you, Empress...
I-I love you too, C-Chris...

I gave her a quick kiss and peeked out of the tree to scout. I found nothing.
I think it's safe now. I said to Empress. I tried to go out, but Empress dragged me back in. I en route my face to hers.

Why? I asked her.
Don't go out, please. Empress answered, looking at me, a bit blushing. She's really cute when blushing! W-we should stay here for a while. She added. I get what she means.
Okay, we're staying here for a couple of minutes. I uttered.

After a few seconds of awkward gazing at each other, I hugged Empress. I hugged her tight as if there's no tomorrow. Empress hugged back. I then, stopped hugging, I put my hands on her neck, closes my face to hers, and kissed her again. She kissed me back. I held her waist, pulling it towards my body.

We kissed for a few minutes. Man, it was great. We rested for a couple of moments then after that, I peeked out of the tree.
Are there corpses left? Empress asked
Negative. I answered. Let's go out.

Empress went out first, then me afterwards. We walked forward, en routing us to the destinations of Saira and the others. With each step, a noise came out of our feet as we stepped upon the leaves that had fallen on the ground. Along the way into the deep forest, we found a dead body, sitting on a back of a tree, gut-eaten-stomach, and he was wearing a body guard outfit.
Hey, look. A body guard. I said, pointing at the dead body lying on a tree.
Oh. Its stomach is empty. Empress said, a little gross face I saw.
I'll check his body. I uttered as I walk in closer to the dead, rotten body.
What are you going to search his body for? Empress asked as she follows me walking towards the body.
For supplies, like a... Gun or something like that. I answered as I loot his body.
Ahhh yeah, a'ight. Empress replied as she nods her head, then looks around for any signs of danger. I searched his pockets, mini pockets, gun socket.
Empress. I said while simultaneously stares at what I found.
What? Empress replied as she walks closer to me.
Look what I found. I replied while still looking at it.
What is it? Empress asked.
Look. I handed her the thing I found.
Ohh a gun! Is it real? Empress interrogated me.
Uhh yeah, I think. I replied as I was unsure of it that if it is real or just a replica. I held the gun, looking at it like a first-timer.
This might be useful. I uttered.
Uhh yeah it will be. It's a gun. Empress explained.
Come on, let's go. I'm sure they're waiting for us. I added. We continued walking. As we pass through the forest, and nearing to where Saira and the others are, the place gets familliar. Silence was our only companion. Still, my senses is our only protection from dangers who're gonna show up some time now.

Not long, Empress and I arrived at the shed. Saira, Kaylyn, and Shauna is out of the shed, as if they entered a sauna because they're sweating.
Hey. I started. Glad you're all safe.
Glad you're safe too. Shauna replied, wiping her sweaty face with a handkerchief. But, man, it was really hot in there. She added.
Well, the lucky thing is you didn't got spotted. Maybe you did try not to breathe at all. Empress said with a joking tone.
Saira let out a smirk. They smiled at each other.
Hey, come on. It's not safe out here. We need to get back to the road. I explained.
Correct. We need to get moving. Empress added.

We walked all the way back to the road, where we got cornered. And I was surprised that the alarm goes off. I wonder who turned it off, or maybe it has a turn off system that turns off in a minute.

We should go get our things back. I uttered as I break the silence that accompanied us. Great idea, because I'm f*cking starving. Kaylyn said, rubbing his stomach with his hand.
We have nothing here. We're completely out of supplies. Saira explained.
Come on let's go. We can't sit here all day. I uttered as we continued walking.

We were walking, and Empress broke the silence.
Hey Chris. She started
Yeah? I asked as I continued walking, with my bat on my hand and my new found pistol on my back. It was a revolver with six rounds of ammo.
How'd you kill this prick? She asked as she pointed the big zombie, lying on the ground, dead.
Ahh, I pretty much died in there. That prick hit me with his sledgehammer in here. I said as I touched my left ribs. I stabbed its upper back, down to his lower back. You can see it, don't you? As I walked over to it, pointing on his back.
Ahh yeaahhh, glad you killed it. Saira uttered.
Glad you were alive, but are you okay? Empress asked me as she looked on my ribs.
Ahh, yeah yeah, I'll be fine. I'll manage. I replied, holding my ribs, and smiling to her. I need to give her an encouragement. We'll need it.
We continued walking, back to the sedan we left back earlier today.

We were suprised at what we saw when we got there. The corpses are holed up in the car. It's like someone entered the car because corpses are chasing them.

Woah woah, hold on. I said as I used my hand to signal them to stand down. Look. The corpses looks like they're chasing someone in the car. I added.
We should help them. Saira suggested.
Yeah, we should. Shauna added.
Okay. I just agreed to them. Well, after all, we're humans. We're supposed to help each other. 

So we went to the car. I grabbed my bat, and took the first kill. Corpses started to confront us. I swayed my bat, hit them on the head. One shot, one dead. They were easy kill.

After that, I was in front of the car, looking at the front window. There I saw the people who were in the car. They were three people. As clear as I can see, they are two girls and one boy. And looks like they're teens like us.

I opened the door for them.
Come on, you're safe now. I said to them as I greeted them.
Thanks, man. You saved us. The boy said.
But, why? He asked.
Why? Life is precious. I just helped yours.
I answered.
Thanks again. I'm Eric. This one on my left is Carla. And on my right is Karin. Eric explained
Nice to meet you. I'm Chris. I said as I put my bat onto my shoulders. This is Empress, Saira, Shauna, and Kaylyn. I said as I pointed out everyone.
Ahh okay. But thanks again for saving us. Eric replied.
Hey. I said to get his attention. You wanna join us? I mean the more we are, the better. And atleast it's better that we're more and... We might survive this break out. And... I really want them to join us because, you know, the more the merrier, as they say.
Hey, hey, we're glad you asked that. I thought I was gonna do the talking. Eric explained.
So... You gonna join us?
Of course! Eric said excited.
Well, welcome to the team. I said as I reached out my hand. Gladly, he accepted it, and we shook hands.

Come on, let's go. I know a place we can stay. I suggested.
Where, Chris? Empress asked
Back to the mansion we holed up for a day. I was thinking that maybe we could barricade it and survive for years. I explained.
Ahh, okay, Chris. You're the leader, we follow you. Empress added as she was happy about it.
Leader? Psshhh. I'm not that special. I replied with a little sarcastic tone.
Yes, you are, Chris. And... Empress leaned in to me, and whispered, You're so special to me...
I let out a smirk, and I was happy. I smiled. It made me look like an idiot.

We are en route to the mansion again. This time, we'll try to survive, for days, for months, or even years.
