The word "secret" is not all it seems. You may think a secret is just a thought in your head you don't want to tell anyone, but it is much more than that. Here is the story on how I died five times because someone kept a secret.
My name is Emilia. I have a twin sister named Isla.
Now, this is the normal circle of life: live, die, reborn, live, etc. each person has a soul and a mind. When you are living, the soul in this body can control the body. When you are ready to die, the soul slowly leaves the body and finds another one to be rebirthed into. Usually, it's selected by the souls at Rebirth Cove, but you don't need to know much about that right now. If you were born as twins, triplets, etc, your souls are connected. That's how most twins have so many similarities. You have the power to enter the shared mind, which only you and that or those siblings can access. Since I have a twin sister, Isla, our souls are connected, so it's most likely our souls when leaving our body will choose people close to each other to be rebirthed into.
(let's just start the story. I don't know how to introduce this)
It started as a normal day. I had just gotten back from school. Father wasn't home from work yet, so it was just Isla and I.
I went straight up to my room I was sharing with Isla as she went to the kitchen to get some snacks. I dumped my backpack at my table and sat down.
On my desk was a blank piece of paper. I hesitated before getting a pencil. Usually writing helped me take my mind off everything that happened everyday.
As my pencil scratched on the paper, I felt myself relax. The only person who I'm actually close to in this family is Isla. My mother passed away when I was two years old, and my father...well, he's trying to be the best he can, but ever since mother passed away, he's been really dull and impatient with everything. Arguments start from literally nothing.
I already had around four full pages of my new story finished, and the door opened. I knew that it was father, but I didn't bother going downstairs because I wanted to avoid an argument.
After another half hour, father called for dinner. We had that in silence, and Isla and I went to bed. I had a nightmare that night.
In the dream, I was in a completely dark space.
Underneath me, the ground rippled with every step I took, like I was walking on holographic water.
Emilia, I heard something call me. A flash of white glowed through the room.
Emilia, your time is almost up...what will you do?
Apparently, whoever I was controlling in my dream couldn't talk.
The voice continued anyway. You cannot mess with fate, Emilia. I know what you want to do.
My sleeping body flinched.
To my right, I saw a glowing white ball.
Ah, Isla. You have arrived.
Isla? What was she doing here? Did I look like that too? Of course, I couldn't do anything, because again, whoever I was couldn't talk.
The voice spoke again. Everyone has forgotten what is important. Have you forgotten too, princesses?
Princess? I wasn't a princess. I'm just an average girl. I wondered where I was and what was happening. Before the voice could say anything else, the scene faded away.
I awoke from Isla shaking my arm.
I pushed myself onto my elbows, ignoring the bright sunlight shining through the window. "What happened?" I asked Isla, yawning.
