The Pyramid of Djedefre consisted mostly of ruins located in Egypt... at least that's what the muggles thought. This pyramid used to be protected by MECA; Magical Egyptian Congress Association. Eleanor learned about this in her Ancient Runes class and tried to recall the story.
"What are we looking at here?" Samuel asked and tilted his head to the side.
"Are you serious? How do you not know what this is?" Eleanor turned to Samuel with a glare.
"Actually, El, I'm also a little confused here. I mean, I know it's supposed to be a pyramid, but what's special about it?" Newt asked and Eleanor rolled her eyes.
"Idiots... This is the lost Pyramid of Djedefre." She said and they gave her an even more confused look.
"Please tell me you guys have heard of this? It's quite famous." Eleanor continued, but realized the men had no idea what she was talking about. "Clearly you guys didn't take Ancient Runes."
"Clearly! Explain El! Did you forget I was expelled?" Newt said slightly annoyed.
"Merlin! Alright! This is Egypt's northernmost pyramid and is believed to have been built by Djedefre, son and successor to king Khufu. Surely you know who that is right?" She asked them and was severely disappointed when they shook their heads no.
"King Khufu was an ancient Egyptian monarch who was the second pharaoh of the Fourth Dynasty, in the first half of the Old Kingdom period during the 26th century BC. He was known for commissioning the Great Pyramids of Giza?" She asked that last part as a question.
"Ohhh," They said in unison.
"You could've just said he built the pyramids and I would've understood." Newt said.
"It's just a huge pile of rubble, how is this a pyramid? And why is it lost?" Samuel asked.
"It looks like this from a distance to confuse muggles that get too close. If they do wander too close, there's an enchantment to keep them away. It makes them remember something that's really important to make them leave." She said.
"Okay, well what about wizards?" Newt asked.
"I'm getting there! MECA wanted to keep this pyramid a secret because it contains something extremely precious and valuable to them, so they began making rumors that it diminished and crumbled to the earth. When in reality, it's actually still in tact and in perfect condition and MECA used it as their headquarters for a long long time. Unfortunately, the pyramid was over run by the Romans and MECA had to give up on trying to protect what was in there." She said calmly. The men were hanging onto every word she said, absolutely fascinated by this piece of information.
"What's in it?" Newt asked like a child.
"Supposedly, there's a fountain of youth with a potion that keeps you young forever if you bathe in it for twenty four hours on the night of a new moon. But there's also no proof that's factual." She said while staring at the sight before her as if she was waiting for something to happen.
"We should set up camp here. It's close enough and out of sight." Eleanor said while looking around them.
"What are you looking for?" Newt asked her.
"There were supposed to be more of us." Eleanor said with a little panic in her voice.
"We'll be fine. Maybe they're running late." Samuel suggested, but Eleanor knew that wasn't the case. No one was ever late, not on a Dumbledore mission and something about that made her stomach hurt. Samuel waved his wand and out of his bag popped out their whole set up. There were two sand colored tents to blend into the dunes and a screened in tent with a table and outdoor kitchen area for them to make food. Eleanor walked into their tent and looked around. Like their last trip, there were dressers, desks, and one queen sized bed. Newt set his case on the floor and opened it up.
"I'm just gonna check on them. I'll be back in a few." He said and ducked into his case. Eleanor took off her purse and unpacked her things into the drawers and placed her journal on the desk. She turned on a record player to listen to Helen Kane. She danced with herself a bit while using her wand to dress the bed with her favorite silk sheets. Newt popped his head out of the case and watched the love of his life dance around with the silk sheets snaking around her body. Eleanor spun and met his eyes and blushed immensely.
"What are you watching?" Eleanor giggled.
"Do you always shake your tush like that when you dance?" Newt asked her confidently.
"Only when I think no one's watching," Eleanor said while crossing her arms. Newt crawled out from his case and Eleanor turned her back to him to finish up making their bed. Thinking Newt was going to come around and hug her, she was shocked to feel a hard smack on her bottom and turned around quickly while putting a hand on her bottom.
"Ouch! Newt!" She began, but he quickly shut her up with a kiss and pulled away.
"You only shake that for me from now on, alright?" He nearly whispered it in her ear which sent electric shocks through her whole body. Even her knees buckled a bit, but Newt held onto her tightly and pecked her lips once more.
"Newt?" Eleanor asked him before he left the tent. He turned around and met her eyes.
"Hm?"
"I have a strange feeling about this mission." She admitted.
"Why's that love?" He asked while ducking back into the tent and made his way back to her.
"It's just a gut feeling. Is Dumbledore always this vague? Why didn't he give us more information about this and why is half our group missing?" She asked him.
"El, I couldn't say this in front of Samuel because he's not supposed to know. It has to do with the Order. No one else is coming. It's just us now and we're not only getting the creatures out of that pyramid, we're also looking for..." Newt trailed off.
"Newt! Come on, spit it out!" Eleanor began raising her voice.
"Have you heard about the destruction of Sudan? The number of missing people have been increasing and no one seems to know what's happening...?" Newt asked her cautiously.
"Yes...?" Eleanor egged on. "Newt what are you getting at?"
"El, do you know what an Obscurial is?" He asked her in a deep low voice. Her eyes widened as she began putting pieces together.
"Newt..." She began, but he stopped her.
"Please don't be upset I didn't tell you sooner. I wasn't sure how you would react." He said with his head low. She held his head back up to meet her gaze.
"Newton, you absolute fool. I will follow you anywhere and you know that. I'm just upset that you had to wait until now to tell me." Eleanor said.
"So you know what an Obscurial is then?" He asked her again and she nodded.
"Mom spoke about them occasionally, but I don't think any of her books have anything about them. This isn't a three day trip, is it?" Eleanor asked him and Newt shook his head.
"Unfortunately not, it's not going to be easy either. Dumbledore seems to think Grindelwald is hunting down Obscurials which is extremely dangerous and stupid, but if he had something like that in the palm of his hands...well... We would be living in a different world for the rest of our lives." He admitted.
"Why can't we tell Samuel?" Eleanor asked him.
"I've tried to recruit him for the order, but he keeps telling me he doesn't want to. Dumbledore stopped trying to get him on board. That's why he was hesitant about letting him join us." He said.
"Do you think he'd listen to me?" Eleanor asked.
"It might be worth a shot. Then we can at least tell him the truth about why we're actually here." Newt said and he opened the tent for them to both go outside and sit at the table.
What a weird day it's been already, Eleanor thought.
