"Oh my, there is absolutely no need for you to nip my fingers now..." Eleanor grumbled to a fussy niffler. She filled his dish with some feed and hid some treats around his burrow. She also buried a few coins around for him to find. The niffler went to bite her finger again.
"Hey now! What did I just say? Why are you acting this babe?" Eleanor questioned the little creature. She handed him a treat, but he threw it on the ground and went towards Eleanor's shoe. Eleanor stepped backwards and scooped the little guy up. He squirmed in her arms and let out a cry. Eleanor sat down on the ground with the little guy still squirming in her arms trying to get free
"Let me take a look at you. Something's bothering you, huh?" She asked and she flipped him over onto his back which helped him relax a bit. She realized what the trouble was and drew her wand carefully not to upset the niffler again. He had a nasty gash on his stomach which made Eleanor wonder what had happened and if it was another beast that got him.
"Poor thing, what happened to ya?" She murmured. "Newt?" She said as calm as she could. He poked his out from his shack.
"Yes, love?" He asked and saw her sitting on the ground.
"I need you to slowly bring me some muddled Ajwain leaves." She said to him. He ducked back in and came back out slowly and handed her a ball of green paste. She grabbed a few treats from her pocket and let the niffler munch on something while she did the hard part. Newt watched her work intently as she used her wand to open the wound up a little wider to see if there were any infection which made the niffler squirm a bit.
"Shh Shh, it's okay. Daddy's gotchya." She cooed and smeared some of the paste onto the cut which soothed him almost instantly.
"Feels better already, huh?" She asked and used her wand to draw a bandage around the wound. She wanted to make sure it wasn't infected anymore before closing it up. The bandage was on tightly and she gave him one last treat before turning him back over and placing him on the ground. He wasn't sure what to do with this thing around his stomach now, so he just stood there awkwardly.
"I know... you hate it... you just need to wear it for a little while and then we can close you up. Okay?" She said and scratched the nifflers head and dug in her pockets. She pulled out a silver teaspoon and handed it to the niffler. This got his energy back up as he stood on his hind legs and reached for the spoon. She let him have it and he brought it back to his burrow and curled up to fall asleep.
"You are so good to them," Newt said making her jump. "Sorry, didn't mean to frighten you."
"I just want to know what happened to him..." Eleanor said while still sitting on the ground watching the niffler sleep.
"He gets himself into trouble sometimes. There's a chance he might have tried to take an occamy egg..." Newt trailed off and it made sense. Nifflers like shiny things, occamy shells are silver, occamies are very very protective. "Hopefully he learned his lesson. Now come on, I'm starving. I've got some soup for us heated up."
Eleanor stood up and brushed the dirt off her dress and followed Newt back into the shack. He already had her bowl sitting at her desk and he was sitting at his writing some things in his journal. Newt had turned on his record player to play some Louis Armstrong. Eleanor decided to take a few notes as well in her journal and before she knew it, she had filled 4 whole pages with healing ingredients for Nifflers including very detailed pictures.
"I don't even know what I'm writing anymore. This is all rubbish," She muttered while slamming her quill down and shoving the journal away from her causing ink to spill on the desk. She groaned in frustration and with her hand made the ink disappear. She buried her head in her hands and let out a loud sigh. "I don't even know why I write half these things down."
