The morning sun shone through a gap in Niamh’s curtains. She rolled over and opened her eyes. She glanced at the calendar on her wall, June 22. She jumped out of bed and flung open the curtains to reveal a beautiful summer’s morning. She opened the window to let in the warm breeze. She danced into the bathroom singing ‘What makes you beautiful’ by One Direction. She couldn’t believe she and her friend, Jenny had been two of the lucky 100 fans to get tickets to One Directions warehouse concert. She had quick shower and danced back into her bedroom. She placed her iPod in her docking station and turned it up full blast. She pulled on a pair of ripped denim shorts and a loose grey top and dried her brown wavy hair. A glance at the clock told her it was ten o’ clock. Niamh ran down the stairs and grabbed a slice of toast for breakfast. She turned on the TV and flicked through the channels but she couldn’t find anything she wanted to watch she was too excited. Two o’clock seem years away as Niamh walked around her house searching for something to occupy her time.
The clock struck twelve and Niamh headed out the door to pick up Jenny. They wanted to get their early. As Jenny climbed into Niamh’s yellow mini ‘Kiss You’ came on the radio. The started singing along at the top of their voice’s. The car ride there seemed to take forever but they arrive at quarter to one. They pulled into the carpark near the warehouses by the docks. It wasn’t hard to figure out which warehouse they were performing in. There wasn’t many there yet but they were load. They joined the line behind the others and jumped up and down excitedly. Niamh pulled her camera from her grey shoulder bag and took pictures of them that she was definitely posting on facebook that night. They jumped around with the other directioners.
The next hour passed slowly but as it reached quarter to 2 the warehouse doors opened and they entered the huge, empty warehouse, well except the stage that had been set up for the boys. Niamh took pictures of everything. They were right in front of the stage. As it neared two a countdown started on the wall behind the stage…. 5…4…3…2…1… They ran on stage and burst into song… “Hey girl, I’m waitin’ on ya, I’m waitin’ on ya, Come on and let me sneak you out and have a celebration, a celebration, the music up the windows down……………………….And live while we’re young”. Niamh and Jenny sand along at the top of their voices. Live While We’re Young was followed by Up All Night and I want.
“How you doin’ out there?” Harry shouted. Screams of teenage girls fangirling were the only response. “Boys would you look at our top 100 fans, aren’t they beautiful?” Harry asked. “I feel a song coming on” Louis answered………..Liam began singing “You’re insecure, don’t know what for, you’re turning heads when you walk through the do-o-or……………………………………………………” As the song ended Niall winked at Niamh which sent her into a fit of screams and giggles. The concert lasted two hours with Niamh and Jenny bouncing around singing the songs at the top of their voice. They finished up singing Little Things. The Directioners piled down the steps from the back of the warehouse and out next to the docks to wait for the boys to come out to take pictures, which they promised they’d do. Niamh and Jenny were somehow knocked to the back of the group near the water. Jenny left to grab the bottle of water she’d left in Niamh’s car. Niamh screamed along with all the other Directioners. As Jenny came around the corner from the car park she spotted Niamh at the back of the crowd. The crowd was pushing back towards the edge of the docks. Niamh looked behind and noticed she was dangerously close to the edge. She tried to push forward but an accidental elbow to the chest sent her over the edge. Jenny stopped breathless but started running towards where Niamh had fallen in. Nobody else seemed to notice. The couldn’t hear the splash over the screaming of all the fans.
Niamh panicked as the elbow hit her chest and she fell backwards. She couldn’t think clearly. She tried to stay above the water but she wasn’t a great swimmer. Her legs kicked to keep her head above water and her arms pushed against the water as she tried to stay above the water. She wanted to scream for help but she couldn’t as she barely had time to exhale and inhale as her mouth rose above the water. The water was freezing and she couldn’t stay afloat. She fought to stay up but she slowly sank as all the oxygen left her lungs. Everything went dark but it was suddenly bright again. It was peaceful, Niamh was no longer filled with panic. In the distance she could hear singing she listened closely. She had never heard the song before but the voice was familiar.
"You’re hand fits in mine like it was made just for me but bear this in mind it was meant to be and I’m joining up the dots with the freckles on your cheeks and it all makes sense to me.
I know you’ve never loved the crinkles by your eyes, when you smile you’ve never loved your stomach or your thighs, the dimples in you back at the bottom of your spine but ill love them endlessly…………………….”
Just as Jenny reached the edge of the dock, somebody ran past her and jumped in. All she saw was his fluffy blond hair. Jenny kneeled at the edge looking over. She was anxious as she saw no sign of either person. Just then they surfaced. She had no time to take in who the mysterious guy was as she helped get Niamh out of the water. He pulled himself up onto dry land, his blond hair matted to his head, his blue eyes filled with worry as he checked her pulse. “I can’t find a pulse” he informed Jenny. He started compressions on Niamhs chest as Jenny sat frozen with worry.
“………You never love yourself half as much as I love you, you'll never treat yourself right darling but I want you to, if I let you know, I'm here for you, maybe you'll love yourself like I love you oh.” .” Continued in the distance of Niamh’s peaceful world. As the song came to end she could hear someone counting.
"1-2-3-4-5-6-7-8-9………………” he said. He gave Niamh two breaths and as he started again she started coughing. Jenny was by her side holding her hand as the mystery guy rolled her on her side. “It’s ok, you’re going to be ok” he whispering soothing words to calm her down as she opened her eyes. Fear was evident in them. Jenny brushed a strand of hair from NIamh’s face. NIamh was coughing up water as Jenny whispered soothing words of nonsense. She looked up at the mystery guy who she was to worried to recognise earlier, Niall Horan. Niall Horan, it can’t be, it is, she thought. Niamh started to mumble something “sing-ing” she whispered. Jenny couldn’t make out what she was saying “What?” she questioned. “Who was singing?” Niamh was hoarse. “Nobody honey” she replied as she ran her hand soothingly through Niamhs hair.
Sirens could be heard approaching.
