Varian stood in the infirmary, annoyed. This was part of the weekly check ups that Rapunzel insisted that he have, due to him being, quote "accident prone".
The medic made quick work of opening the buttons of his shirt,
"Arms."
and slipped it off him.

"Uh, you're wearing that again! I told you not to!" She was speaking in regards to his binder. It was better than bandages. He'd made one after seeing how corsets worked, and wondered if he could do the same to his chest. The answer was yes.
"At least tell me you take it off sometimes?"
He didn't answer.
"Please tell me you don't wear it to sleep at least?"
"I don't."
She let out a poor timed sigh of relief before Varian continued.
"Sleep, that is. I don't sleep, I stay awake for days on end, before passing out, waking up hours later and repeating. All while being haunted by terrifying, horrific nightmares every time I'm not conscious."
The medic stepped back from him in shock. Normal people didn't say things like that.

"That's...that's not healthy, Adaline." She finally mumbled out.
Varian just scoffed. "Not healthy?" He began a slow march towards the woman. "I spent a year rotting in the dark, disgusting, dungeons of this very castle. It was awful. The food was so bad I may as well have been malnourished, the water was stank and old, I barely got an hour of sunlight a day, if I was lucky. Days and nights melded together, because the difference wasn't there anymore, because none of it mattered, I was so sure that I was going to die down there."

His face was barely inches from hers, staring down at her, driving all his fear into her.
Then he stood back up like he had said nothing, and slipped his shirt back on, buttoning it deftly before walking out.

"See you next week!"
