Why Can't you see Me

Part 1

He slowly came to. The visions of what happened burned behind his closed eyes, so he slowly pried them open. Taking in his surroundings, he wasn't in his suit, or in a cell, like he'd expected. Based in the rows of beds all identical to his, he was in the infirmary. Great, they didn't care at all, and now they want to nurse him back to health. How sweet.

Something felt off, but he couldn't place it. It was a pressure, a weight on his chest, but Rudigger wasn't with him- oh. Oh no.
He had to force himself to stop his eyes from glancing down at them, that would only make it worse. His breath grew fast, and while he knew panicking wouldn't help, he couldn't stop.

"Varian?"
God fucking dammit. Rapunzel. She couldn't see him like this, no one could, aside from the medic he supposed.
"Varian?"
He could tell which direction she was coming from, and rolled over away from it, tucking his hands under his arms, crossed over his chest. He wasn't quite sure if he was hiding them from her, or himself.

"Varian?" He could tell that she had reached his beside. "Varian, the medic said there was something that I might want to see?"
"Well there isn't."
"Are...are you sure? You're very curled up into yourself."
"I'm sure I'm fine, I sleep like this. So kindly, leave."
He heard her sigh as she turned on her heel and walked away.

It took all he had to not shout or scream at her, but if he had, he would have been put in the dungeons immediately, and he couldn't have that. Not yet.
