"Someday I'll be the most feared man on the streets." I tell the others.
Louis shrugs and rolls his eyes. "Be careful what you wish for July. Some day you will wish for this back. This anonymity."
"Today is not that day, my friend." I say, leaning back. I know just rented this nice apartment. Well semi nice. We weren't ready to be a well known mafia. But I'm still waiting for the day I'm as well known and rich as Johnny Hollister.
Donnie sits next to me. "Cheers to that my brother." He says.
Louis sighs. "Right now just be thankful you have a place to sleep and food to eat. Let's focus on taking over New York later."
I roll my eyes at Louis. He always had simpler way of looking at life. Sometimes it was nice, other times not so much. "Or we can focus on it now. I mean we have nothing else to do."
Louis smiles."Your logic kills me.
"Actually there's something I want to focus on first." I tell them.
"What's that?" Louis asks me. He had pulled out of deck of cards and started a game with them.
"I want to figure out what happened to my parents. I know they were murdered." I pause to think. There was no proof that they were murdered. When I had Donnie get me the file for the fire, there was practically nothing on it. They didn't rule it as a foul play or an accident. They just left it open.
"Are you absolutely positive they were murdered?" Louis questions. "House fires happen sometimes. It sucks but it happens."
"I have a gut feeling. I can't explain it."
"You just did." Donnie tells me. "You have a gut feeling, simple as that."
I roll my eyes, turning to Louis. He smiles, shrugging. "Yeah, we can do that."
Days have passed and I haven't heard anything from Hollister. Why didn't I listen to Donnie's gut feeling? Maybe we could've found them in time. I've lost hope that they're still alive.
Desperate for some comfort, I head to my closet. I toss old clothes and items from my younger years. It's under here somewhere.
I let out a small when I catch a glimpse of the leather covered book. Louis gave me that Bible when I was thirteen. He was undoubtedly a Christian. He tried to introduce the same faith to me and Donnie but we were stubborn.
Louis wasn't a very vocal Christian. He took the saying "Actions speak louder than words" very seriously. He more displayed his faith by caring for us and loving us no matter what.
I study the Bible carefully, turning it over in my hand. It was in almost brand new condition. Mostly because it was barely used. I read it a couple times when I first got it but I didn't really understand so I placed it in my closet.
I almost completely forgot about it but then Athena talked her faith. I hesitate slightly, looking at the cover.
Should I read this? I'll probably just get confused like last time. Does God even care?
It's been forever. Louis talked about God always loving me no matter what. But it seemed impossible, how can He love me after everything I have done?
Donnie pops his head in my room, raising an eyebrow at the sight of me crouched by my closet surrounded by clothes and junk. "I think you hit your breaking point July."
"Tell me about it. Did you need something?" I ask.
"This came for you. I don't know who sent it so don't ask." Donnie says handing me a note.
