We made our way through town. We passed many stores, until jeff finally stopped at this one gas station a little farther out towards the deep woods off EastWood st. The place was dead silent. But it felt alive. It felt if we went into the store there would be activity all around. But you could tell it wasn't busy at all. Kind of like the woods earlier. The place looked abandoned in a way. The big letters on the front of the store that read "ganetvalley market", weren't lighted like they should of been. The R in read was flickering. "Jeff, are you sure it's alright to be here?" I ask him. He chuckles as he looks down at me. "What, are you scared?" He says with a grin. I gave up trying to show him i'm braver than him. "Yes! I am scared Jeff!" I yell. "Shhh." He says and he rests his index finger over his lips and looks down directly in my eyes. I sigh. He suddenly took my hand and pulled me along with him to the other side of the building. "Stay behind me." He says. I snuggle behind him and put my hand on his shoulder. We both jump a little at the sound of a creaking door opening. I peek over Jeff a little to see. It was an older man, about sixty years old. He looked healthy, and he had a rusty bucket in his hand with gloves. We watched as he walked down the close road, until we couldn't see him anymore from the trees blocking our view. "Who was that?" I ask Jeff. "How would i know?" He responds turning around to face me. "I don't know, i thought you have been here before. This far out of town." I respond. He cuffs my face in his palms and looks down at me. Kind of like the way a father would correct their child if they did something wrong. "I don't know what i'm doing Jane. I just wanted to have some fun sweet pea." He chuckles to
Himself teasingly. "Ugh! Get off of me!" I shove his hands off my face. "Okay i'm sorry Jane. I just thought you needed some adventure." He says with a sparkle in his eyes. "What adventure? There's no adventure around here." "Yes there is! Lets go get high Jane. Let's go run off. Let's go fucking crazy for once. Don't go home tonight, stay with me tonight. We havent hung out in a long time." Then i remembered he was only friend. And he still is my only friend. I remember it was in the 6th grade. I remember i was new to Ridgeway middle school, and all the girl's used to pick on me. I spent alot of time alone, until he found me. I remember Jeff walking up to me in the cafeteria, while i waited in line to get my lunch. I remember it was raining that day, and the day after my father left. But Jeff made the next day better. "Hi, i'm Jeff. What's your name?" He said with the most kindest smile i'd ever seen. He looked a little rough. His ears were pierced, and he had a ripped up hoodie on over his dirty tank. His long, brown, messy hair fell over his left eye. But i noticed those eyes. Those fucking blue eyes i love so much. "My name is Jane." I finally responded as happy as i could trying to not seem so sad. It seems like when you open up to someone about your promlems, they leave. So it's better just to shut your mouth and keep quite. "I like that name. We both have the same first letter in our first names." He smiled. "Are you trying to hit on me?" I remember i asked him. Now that i think about it, i feel pretty stupid for asking him that. Because jeff always seems like he is hitting on everyone he talks too. I know he's not trying to make it seem like that, he just doesn't know how to communicate right. "I'm sorry Jane, if it seemed that way. I'm kind of, strange. Aren't i?" He asked me. I could see the sadness in his eyes. And it was real. "No, you aren't strange." I said and i layed my hand on his shoulder. I remembered him looking up at me wide eyed with his jaw nearly dropping. "Really? You don't think so? The kids in my classes always tell me im strange and a freak. The reason i started talking to you was because you looked lonely, and i saw how those girls harrassed you everyday." Jeff told me looking down with a small blush. "Thank you. I'm happy someone understands." I said. "Do you want to sit with me and talk while we eat?" He asks me. And i relized that no one has actally asked me that before in my life. "Yes, of course." We both sat down at an empty lunch table. People were whispering about us all around, but we didn't care. I remember we talked about how my dad left, and my mom was an alcholic. And apparently Jeff's dad was hard on him about everything, and his mom was too. He had a younger brother who was a just a baby at the time , and an older brother that lived at college. That was one of the best days of my life. When i met Jeff. "Jane?" Jeff calls out to me and i quickly snap back into reality. "Sorry i was just thinking." He sighs. "Come on." Jeff runs infront of me and we both head into the empty store. "Are you going to steal? If you are please don't." "Chill Jane, i'll be the one that gets blaimed." He makes his way behind the main desk and takes an orange ciggarette lighter and 2 packs of ciggarettes and hides it in his hoodie pockets. "Dude! Please put it back! There's a camera idiot!" I scream trying to stop us from getting in trouble. He looks up at the camera and shruggs. "What's the old man going to do? Kill us?" Jeff said with a scarcastic smile. We both suddenly heard a noise. It was a muffled sound of a door opening and then slowly closing from the back of the store. "Jeff come on lets go, now!" I yell and we both quickly scurry out of the store. We run as fast as our feet could carry us down a street we didn't even know of. We eventally stopped once we got out of the territory of the store. "Where are we?" I ask jeff. He sniffs around in the air, his lightly colored face pointed towards the sky with his brown hair over his eyes. His white hoodie was pulled over his head. "I don't know. We could just find a path through the woods and find a place in there to stop and sit down." "No Jeff. This was a bad idea. I'm tired, and i have tons of homework." I said as an exuse trying not to show fear. He squints his eyes and his hands form into a fist at his sides. I've never seen him so angry. It seemed like he was going to punch me or something, but i knew he wouldn't do that. He would never hurt a girl on purpose. "I'm...sorry..." I was about to say "Jeff," but He stopped me. "Jane. You're are braver than that! This is why you piss me off sometimes! You always are too afraid! And stop looking so down all the time! You are never smiling. Smile more." I couldn't defend myself against what he said. He was absoulutly right. "Okay, i'll go with you." I said. Jeff stormed infront me and i quickly followed him as he cleared a small path into the deep, dark woods.
