Using Your Best Friend as Your Lover

It's Over

John grabbed his phone a couple minutes after Crystal left. He called Dave;he had to tell him.

“Sup, egbert?”

“Crystal is on to you! She came into the movie club and kept asking me what was going on with you and Jade. I told her you both were partners in some kind of social experiment! I think she bought it, but she might have ran off and told Sollux or something. She looked like she was in a hurry.”

“Crap. She can’t get with that walking corpse. Wait-why would she run to him?”

“Don’t ask me! She is the one who likes him and besides, he was outside the door and ran after her when she left.”

“Stop him, John! I’ll tell Jade.”

John hung up the phone and ran out the door. Dave looked around his house, but stopped as he saw the window. He saw Crystal taking off back to the direction of her house. ‘Damnit, I can’t let her get away.’

Crystal bolted to her house. She ran in and locked the door. She didn’t want anyone to see her right now. She was glad she was alone for the week. Her mom was on a business trip. She only leaves  once a year, so this is a good time she left. Crystal made sure all the windows and doors were locked. After, she ran to her bedroom and laid on her bed. Face first in the pillow. She turned her head to breathe, but clenched the pillow. How was she going to talk to Dave normally when she thought that he was in love with Jade,but dating’ her? Why is she getting so emotional about this? She closed her eyes to sleep for a bit.

Dave ran up the the door and pounded the door.

“Crystal! I know you’re home! Open the door!”

After 5 minutes of waiting, he walked to the side of her house. He tried to lift the windows, but the locks were in. Crap. He saw a tree nearby and climbed it. There was a branch that was not too far from the balcony onto Crystal’s mom’s room. It was a risky jump, but he had to get in there. He took the leap of faith after he backed up and made a running start. His first hand made it, but the second one slipped off. He tried to pull himself up as hard as he can, before he heard a noise. Crystal stood near the balcony and stared at him. She rubbed her eyes before speaking.

“Dave? What are you doing?”

“You know, just hanging on to my dear life. The usual, really. A little help, pl-”

“I wanna break up.”

“What?!”

Dave let go of his grip and was about to fall. She grabbed his forearm and pulled him onto the balcony. He pulled himself up to help her. She breathed heavily as he looked at her, angry.

“We aren’t really dating, but why would you want to break up?”

“I know. Okay. John told me that you are Jade were partners for some experiment, but I didn’t buy it. I ran to your house and heard you both! I heard what you were saying about me, Dave. I know. That’s why i want to break up. Don’t let the door hit you on the way out.”

Dave just stared at her as she got up and walked back to her room. How could he be so stupid? Why did he talk to Jade about his feelings for Crystal? Why did She have to find out?! He knew only one person to take his frustration out, and nothing was holding him back now.
