Grocery Store Tantrum

Gracies POV (4 Years Old)

"Jay I don't wanna go to the store" I complained "I wanna go to the park" I declared as Jay pulled in to the parking lot of the grocery store,

"It's raining Gracie you can't go to the park" Jay informed "and anyway, we need to go to the store if you wanna eat today" he finished as he turned off the ignition and unbuckled his seatbelt. "We won't be in there long then we can go home" he compromised "how about we get that play dough thing out you got for your birthday later" he suggested and my head peeked up slightly,

"Will you do it with me?" I asked and he smiled slightly,

"Sure" he replied "now let's get this over with so we can go home" he said as he climbed out of the truck and walked round to my side before lifting me out and put me on the floor. I grabbed on to Jays hand as we walked begrudgingly across the car park and over to the shopping carts where Jay pulled one out "wanna get in?" He asked but I shook my head silently and he shrugged "suit yourself" he said as he pushed the cart in to the store and I sulked behind him "Gracie" Jay stopped "common you know the rules" he reminded "hold on to the cart and stay where I can see you" he said as I did as I was told with a frown firmly fixated across my forehead.

We went down the aisles and Jay grabbed the things we needed at what seemed like an agonising pace,

"Jay?" A voice asked and I looked up to see Kelly Severide,

"Hey Kelly" my brother greeted as they shook hands "good to see ya" he said as Kelly nodded before turning his attention to me,

"Hey Gracie" he greeted but I looked away not really feeling like talking,

"Hey" Jay scolded as he nudged my shoulder slightly "don't be rude, Kelly's speaking to you" he reminded as I begrudgingly looked back at Kelly and smiled slightly,

"Hi" I greeted and Kelly smiled kindly back at me before returning his attention back to my brother. They got in to some conversation about football or something and my patience was beginning to wear thin. I huffed angrily but got no response,

"Jay" I said as I pulled on his arm slightly but his attention didn't turn to me "Jay" I tried again but with no success. I huffed once again as I crossed my arms firmly across my chest. How long can two people talk for? It's like they didn't even know I was there! I began to lean back and swing off the shopping cart but soon stopped when Jays gaze diverted over to me and shot me a warning look. I looked around in a hope that I would find something interesting to occupy my attention when my eyes landed on the play area outside of the store. It was undercover so the rain wouldn't make the difference and at this rate Jay won't even notice I'm gone! I looked up at the two men talking away before deciding to leave them to it. I slowly backed away and made my way back down the aisle when a voice stopped me,

"Gracie don't wander off" Jay said causing me to groan,

"I'm bored" I whined and Jay shook his head,

"I don't care Gracie, come back over here" he instructed but I shook my head,

"No Jay, I wanna go play out there" I informed as I pointed to the undercover play area,

"Not right now babe it's to cold" he shook his head. My frown deepened,

"No it's not, I've got my coat on" I said and Jay sighed,

"Gracie, I said no" Jay replied firmly but I shook my head and stood my ground,

"I'm gonna get going" Kelly announced "I'm on shift soon" he said before walking out of the aisle,
