I sat outside on the veranda with my gun on my lap. It late at night and Dean and Uncle Josh were asleep. I couldn’t sleep, so I came and sat outside. No matter what I did today I couldn’t keep Toby from my mind. I look at my car and wonder if I should go for a drive, but I would most likely disturb someone. I was about to walk inside when I heard sticks break. I turned around but didn’t see anyone. I held my gun in front of me and walked towards my car.

I knelt down and made sure my gun was still pointed in the direction of the noise. I heard a creak inside the cabin. I looked back hoping that no one inside would be stupid enough to turn on any lights. I heard another stick snap. I looked in the direction of the noise.

“I will shot,” I said trying to sound intimidating.

“Okay shot then,” a male voice said and then he laughed. “But then that would be a shame for you.”

The voice sounded familiar. I searched my mind trying to remember whose voice it was. It could be Chris but his voice was a little deeper. Then it hit me.

       “Toby,” I gasped.

“Took you long enough,” he replied.

“What the hell are you doing here?” I asked.

“Looking for you,” he replied. I stood up and stumbled towards him. I tripped over a fallen tree branch and landed in his arms. I wrapped my arms around him and he returned my hug.

“What the hell is going on?” Uncle Josh demanded.

“Toby’s here,” I said happily. Then I became angry with him, I let him go and took a step back. “How did you find us?”

“Forget about that get him inside before anyone sees notices us.” Uncle Josh was clearly angry at one of us. I lead Toby inside, Uncle Josh grabs Toby’s arm and drags him to his room. I follow them scared about what he might do to Toby.

“Who sent you?” Uncle Josh demanded.

“No one sent me,” Toby replied. Uncle Josh pushed Toby against the wall and put his arm on his neck. I watched frozen in horror.

“You’re lying, someone must of sent you,” Uncle Josh said acidly pressing his arm against Toby’s neck. A scream pierces the silent room; it took me a minute to realize that it was mine. I fell to the ground and cried.

“Stop,” I begged. My uncle let’s go and Toby drops to the ground gasping for air. A gun fell from Toby’s pocket in his jumper; Toby picked up quickly and put it in his jumper pocket.

“Someone has sent him Summer, he has got to die before anyone finds out where we are,” Uncle Josh said.

“He saved me from Neil,” I said standing up. I realize I still have my gun in my hands; I put it in the pocket of my jeans.

       “What?”

“Neil grabbed my arm after I said goodbye to them and he squeezed it so hard. I thought he was going to break it, the pain was unbearable,” I replied, looked down at Toby and smiled. “If Toby didn’t come along I would have a broken arm.”

“Is that true?” Uncle Josh asked Toby.

“Yes,” Toby replied after he had regained his breath.

“Get out of my sight, the both of you while I wrap my head around this,” Uncle Josh said. I want over and helped Toby up and I led him to my room.
