mind you, my expertise in this is only limited to mobile apps (mostly over). I'm still getting the hang of photopea so I will be covering the blending modes I'm most familiar with:
multiply, lighten, screen, darken, overlay, hard light, soft light, color and difference.however, for those interested, I will be dropping links to useful articles I found online about blending modes in Photoshop here.
keep in mind that you don't necessarily have to know all these technicalities while making an edit - try and use what produces the best possible final result. these are just little notes on some of them :))

let's begin ::

now in any decent editing app, you will see at least five blending modes. these will usually be normal, multiply, screen, overlay and darken.
of course, there will be more in those with more extensive options, especially those that are meant for digital art like ibispaintx.
in over, these are the available blending modes:
we must understand that blending certain images like clipping masks or overlays are restricted to a few blending modes. we must also understand that not all images can be blended straightway on a blank canvas. the canvas must have some solid colour besides black and white.
in the above given example, this is how I labelled my layers:
