Renjun POV:
Finally it's my time to show everyone what I'm really made of. I've been fencing for quite some time, but I stopped for a while to focus on my studies. However after moving to Neo High, it's time for me to jump back into my favorite sport with my best friends. As I'm packing up my stuff after math, I see Aria dash out of the room. I'm guessing she's also on her way to fencing tryouts. After Jaemin finishes packing up his stuff, we say goodbye to Mr. Kun and make our way to the locker rooms. By the time we arrive, I see Mark, Jeno and Haechan already in athletic clothes. "See you guys out there," Mark says before heading out. I finish changing into more comfortable athletic clothes before heading out with all my gear.
After an introduction from our coaches and Mark, I start to suit up. I'm a little bit tired from all our classes, so I take a longer time getting suited up. As I'm suiting up, I hear one of the machines go off, indicating that two people have just hooked up to fence each other. I look over and see Aria saluting her opponent and Coach Irene, who will be refereeing. I've only ever seen Aria fence once at an international tournament, but I don't even think she remembers me. I watch her bout and instantly become captivated. She's light on her feet and has no mercy for her opponent. She's 100% focused on her target, and the swiftness and accuracy of her movements allows her to attain an easy win. It's like I'm watching her fence for the very first time all over again. I shake my head from my daydream and stand up to head over to Mark for our bout.
Aria's POV:
Once everyone has finished wrapping up their final bouts, we all head into the center of the gym to hear our coaches' final decisions about who made the team and who got cut. I'm feeling more nervous than ever and I can't help playing around with the loose tape at the end of my foil.
"Alright everyone, first of all I would just like to thank all of you guys who came out today to showcase your skills in fencing," Coach Suh starts. "However, after much discussion, we have decided who will be joining the boys' and girls' fencing team this season." He clears his throat and starts reading off the newly created roster.
"First up for the Boys' Team, your captain: Mark Lee.
The people who have made the boys' team are the following...Lee Jeno, Lee Donghyuck, Na Jaemin, and Huang Renjun. Congratulations!" The gym erupts in applause as the 4 boys make their way to Mark's side. They all look relieved, but at the same time, I could tell that they knew they were going to get chosen.
"Next up, for the girls' fencing team. As some of you may know we already have 2 girls who have secured their spots on the team from last year, so this season I will only be admitting 3 new members. The following who have their names called please make your way up here and stand next to Ms. Julia Paulson and Renee Jung." He clears his throat before continuing. My legs are shaking, and I'm so nervous that I feel like I'm going to pass out at any moment. "Congratulations Minnie Young, Aera Park, and Aria Wong!" I hear the applause and see my friends' smiling faces, but it's still taking me a moment to process the news. I DID IT! I MADE THE FENCING TEAM! I run over to my friends and they give me a big hug. I turn over to the other two girls and congratulate them as well. After the excitement dies down I see Mark step into the center.
"Now for the news that I think the girls' team yearns for the most, your new team captain." I look over to Julia and Renee who are looking at me with big smiles on their faces. "Your new team captain is....Aria Wong!" I look back at my friends in shock as they give me a big hug and shake me around like I'm nothing but a rag doll.
'Wait, you guys KNEW??" I asked.
"Girl, we practically begged Coach Suh and Mark to make you team captain!" Julia says.
"But you guys, I don't des-"
"Nuh uh, girl, you are our leader, and there's nothing you can do about it," Renee says.
I don't know what to do or how to thank them, so I just give them a great big hug. Then I come up with an idea. "You know since tomorrow is Saturday, why don't we do a fencing team group bonding thing at my house tonight," I suggest. I look over to Minnie and Aera, and they look absolutely thrilled. "Sounds like a plan," Julia says. "What about the boys?" Renee suddenly asks. Right, the boys. Well, it can't hurt if they come too right? I nod my head yes as a sign that they are free to join us. After settling our plans the girls and I make our way to the locker rooms to get cleaned up.
No One's POV:
After getting cleaned up, the new girls' fencing team heads out into the parking lot to meet up with the boys' fencing team. After Aria gives the boys the address to her house, the boys pile into Mark's SUV, Renee and Julia head over to Julia's convertible while Minnie and Aera get into Aria's Mercedes SUV. "You have a really nice car Aria!" Minnie says. Aria melts at their cuteness. "You guys are both sophomores right?" Aria asks. The girls shake their heads yes, and throughout the duration of the drive the girls start bonding with each other. Aria is the first one to arrive at her house followed by Julia. The girls head into the house first, their eyes wide and mouths open. "Unnie, this is your house?!" Aera asks. "That's exactly what I first said when I saw this place," Julia laughs as she makes her way to the kitchen to grab herself a glass of water.
A couple minutes later, the doorbell rings. Aria goes down and opens the door revealing the boys. "Hey welcome in!" Aria says. The boys make their way into the house and into the kitchen to where Julia and Minnie are. After getting everyone settled in and making sure everyone has something to drink, the team starts to talk, getting to know each other better, forming a bond that will never be broken.
