MARITA

The Beginning of Complication (Part 2)

The sun was setting.

The last golden ray fell harshly on the black table in Arnold's office. Arnold was pacing up and down his office. He couldn't reach Marita the whole day. This morning, his calls were not picked up. He thought Marita must have been in a meeting. But after lunch until now, her phone has gone dead. He tried calling Diah but she didn't picked up too. Arnold did think about calling the office but they have never mixed up work and personal life. So he is not comfortable calling his fiancé's office just to ask where she is. He tried to comfort himself that no news is good news. However, he was growing impatient and worried sick. So, he decided to go find Marita.

Arnold was driving to Marita's office when Diah called.

"Hey Arnold. Sorry I can't take your call before"

"Hey, Di. Is Mari at the office?"

"Hmmm... Yes obviously. Why?"

"I couldn't reach her all day"

"Oh.. That! Yes, she lost her phone" answered Diah innocently.

"Really?! How so?"

"Hehehe... I don't know. You can ask her that yourself"

"Alright then. Can you tell Mari that I am on my way there?"

"Yeah, Sure. How soon will you be here?"

"15 minutes tops"

"OK I'll let her know"

"Hey wait Diah. Make it 30 to 40 minutes".

"Hmmm...". Diah hung up. She walked to Marita's office but as she passed by Franks' she can see that Marita and Frank were still in a meeting. She gestured Frank who was sitting directly facing the window to call Marita. Marita was sitting sideways to the windows. Yeah, Diah could just go in but she was just being silly. 

Marita turned her face to see Diah on the window. She motioned her to come in. But Diah shook her head. She pointed at her ring finger and mouthed 'Arnold' and continued with the gesture of 'Coming' and 'wait'. Marita nodded. Then Diah gave them both a wave and signal that the will go ahead and go home. They both waved back before returning to look at the charts and reports. Diah stayed for a few seconds looking at them and then turned to catch the elevator down to the lobby.

Arnold had pulled up at one of the famous Mobile phone outlet. Not long after, Arnold came out carrying a small bag of mobile phone purchase. He was relieved that at least Marita was alright. He arrived at the Etnodia Building and proceed to walk up the stairs. He reached the Lobby when Diah came out of the elevator. They chatted for a while and went their separate way. Diah went to her car and Arnold got on the elevator to Marita's office.

"It is time for home now, Mari. Should we continue this tomorrow?"

"We can. But we need to reach an agreement for the project for European Human Right Agency. Jessica brought that client and there were some problems with the last project."

"I thought the problem has been resolved".

"Yes and No," Marita passed the report document to Frank. "We were able to maintain that interpreter cannot be called as witness and to testify. Unless it is for the result and quality of our interpreting".

Flipping through the report, Frank forehead wrinkled. "So, why did they demand not only our translation and interpreting documents but also for us to stand witness?"

"That's the problem. I need you to contact our legal team to stay on top of it."

"OK. Noted". Frank looked up to Marita who was rubbing her tired eyes.
