MINHO'S POV

I see him slipping through the gap between the walls and my heart drops. Please Newt, pull him back, don't let him die! But Thomas gets in just as the walls close.

"Congratulations, Greenie. You just killed yourself," I say, my voice breaks on the last few words and I fight the tears stinging my eyes.

"It was that or let both of you die," he says and for a moment, I get excited that he cared enough to sacrifice his own life to help me. Then I remember that we're all going to die- me, him, Alby.

"What happened to him?" Thomas asked, pointing at Alby.

"Shucking Grievers figured out how to play dead," I say angrily,

"Oh. Well, has anyone ever survived a night in here?" he asks, his voice stinks of hope.

"No. No one ever survives a night in the maze," I tell him, thinking of the banishments.

"Well, maybe if we stick together, we could have a better chance of survival," he says.

I think it over. If we stick together, I could protect him.

"Fine. Just know that if we stick together, we're also gonna die together," I tell him.

"Why are you being such an ass?! You were cool at the party, why now?! Just because we're stuck in here, it doesn't give you the right!" Thomas explodes.

"Because you shouldn't be here! You're supposed to be safe in the Glade, growing crops and keeping Chuck company!" I yell.

"Why does no one think I can be a Runner?! Newt doesn't and now you don't! I know I can do it and I know I can handle being out here!" I was hoping he wouldn't bring that up. Newt told me he wanted to be a Runner.

"It's not about what you can and can't do or handle," oh shit. I wasn't supposed to say that.

"What, I can't be a Runner because you don't like me or something?!"

"No!" I try to defend myself.

"Then why not? Just spit it out Minho," his tone softens and he looks away.

"Because I care about you, Thomas. A lot. More than anyone else and I've never felt this way about anyone else and I can't lose you," I blurt out.

Stupid, stupid, stupid! Why, Minho, why? I can feel myself blushing as he looks over into my eyes and he comes over and hugs me. I look down at him and he looks up at me. We both move to close the space between us. Our lips are just about to collide when we hear a menacing crescendo of clicks and growls. Grievers.

"Grievers. We have to go!" I whisper and try to pull him along but he resists.

"What the hell are you doing?!" I whisper-yell, "We have to go, NOW!"

"What about Alby? We can't just leave him!" Thomas whispers and points to Alby's body, which is on the ground.

"There's nothing we can do about him! He'll slow us down!" I whisper-yell.

Thomas goes over to Alby and grabs his arms.

"Get his feet," he instructs me and I obey. We walk him over to a wall covered in vines.

Thomas tied vines around Alby's wrists and I tied some around his ankles. We scaled the wall and hoisted Alby up, concealing him in the vines while we were at it. I took out my knife and made a few cuts on one of the vines so that if we survived to the morning, we would know where he is. IF we survive to the morning, Thomas's hope was infectious.

"Okay, he's up now. Now we really have to go," I tell him and he nods. We start running and I mark the walls with my knife while we're at it. But that's when hear a Griever. We turn around just in time to see it's disgusting body, like a slug and a robot, slinking around a corner of the maze. It rushes towards us and we run, Thomas grips my hand tightly. We see a wall that's just about the close and he lets go of my hand.

"What are you doing, you'll die!" I whisper-yell at him.

"I have a plan," he tells me.

Thomas stares at the creature, egging it on. The Griever makes a move to attack him.

"THOMAS!" I scream, my voice breaking once again. He runs and the Griever chases him. Thomas makes it across the wall just in time and the Griever gets squashed by the closing walls. I hold Thomas in my arms for what seems like an eternity.

"You scared me there," I whisper.

"But I killed a Griever," he whispers back and I chuckle.

It takes a moment for me to actually realize what it is that I'm doing. Reluctantly, I pull back and I slump against the wall. Thomas sits down next to me.

"So, do I get to be a Runner now?" he asks.

I think it over a bit before answering. I could make him my partner, that way I could spend time with him and look out for him. He has proven himself worthy, he has good endurance, bravery, and thinks creatively.

"Maybe. I'll put you on the list of trainees and we'll see if it's a good fit," I tell him.

He smiles and it makes me smile. Everything about him makes me smile; his dark brown hair and his blue eyes. His hope and his loyalty. HE makes me smile.

I think I'm in love.

Hello and thank you for reading! I know this chapter was a little bit short, but next chapter should be longer and things are starting to get interesting between Minho and Thomas! Like I said, I was really excited about writing this episode and you probably hate me for not having them kiss, lol. Leave a comment and a vote and have a good day or night!
