"Where I'm From"

I am from my mothers womb

from the dry Mount Vernon air in late January.

I am from the places I lived in as a child.

(Bright, hot,

it smelt like Bluebonnets.)

I am from the Great willow tree,

A caterpillars home

While waiting for its moment of transformation to something new, something better.

I'm from the shadows of my best friend,

my sunshine, Victoria Linn.

I'm from the struggles i've faced and overcame

and the blood and tears i've shed,

from societies horrible comments, ideas and evil words!

I'm from God. The Father. My Savior

im his tragic masterpiece

and he chooses when I will take my last breath.

I am from the Cocoon I spent years in,

I smell the fresh grass and hear the muffled sound of the ones I love.

From the war my papa fought with himself

and eventually lost,

the things my father finally put away to be in my life.

People see what they want to see

and hear what they want to hear,

all facing the same fears

but, unlike many I am now free.

I am wiser than i was then--

I am stronger than i used to be--

I'm a caterpillar who has finally gained her wings.
