Let's Take a Drive

"Let's take a drive." Robert said. It was a late Sunday afternoon. He and Andy were relaxing on the couch, watching a show after a lazy weekend off. The world and work had been so crazy lately, it had been nice to just be together.

"But we're so cozy," Andy replied back as she snuggled closer to her husband. Wrapped in his arms, head resting on his chest, just the two of them was her favorite place to be.

They had spent the weekend relaxing, playing games, watching movies and eating. Just enjoying each other's company. She'd hoped to find a moment that felt right to tell him about the baby but each time she thought it might be a good time had chickened out. They hadn't talked about kids. Andy was fairly certain Robert wanted them, but even still it was soon and their life was just finally starting to have a sense of normalcy to it.

She was initially really freaked out, then she remembered seeing Robert with the baby when an RV crashed into the station house and again with those boys after George Floyd and she knew he was a natural. And she...she had to admit that something had changed for her. After spending years adamant that she didn't want more, it turned out that with the right man by her side, she actually did. She wanted a family with Robert. She didn't know how it would all work out, but she believed it would.

"I promise...it'll be worth it." Robert said as he kissed her forehead. "We can even stop at the ice cream place you love."

"Using food to motivate me..." Andy joked. "You know me so well." They both laughed.

Not long after that they were in the car with Robert behind the wheel. After driving about 15 minutes he asked. "What do you think about this neighborhood? I hear the schools are good."

Andy was unsure where this conversation was going but went along. Seattle was a beautiful city and had a lot of nice areas. "It's nice. I like that it's close to the lake," She said. "It seems quiet but walkable too, good restaurants and stuff."

"Yeah, I like that too," Robert replied after taking a deep breath and maneuvering them down a lovely street with mature trees and nicely manicured lawns. He pulled his crossover into a driveway in front of what looked to be a perfect family home. It had a typical Seattle vibe, nice combination of traditional and modern. "C'mon, let's take a look". He moved to get out of the car, but Andy stayed seated.

Andy looked utterly confused at this point. She was not tracking at all why they would be looking at a new house. They hadn't ever talked about moving although Andy did know they would likely need more space here soon. "Robert, why are we looking at a house? There's nothing wrong with our place." Looking at her husband's face, Andy could tell he was up to something.

"Just humor me. You might like it." Robert said with a smile. He'd already seen it and knew she would love it.

After Robert keyed in a code to the real estate lock box, they walked inside to a stunning open floor plan. High ceilings, huge windows, great light. Living room, dining room and family nook off a state of the art kitchen. Downstairs had an office and guest room with en suite, plus more space to spread out. Upstairs there were 2 bedrooms and bathroom, Jack and Jill style, plus a to die for master suite. Robert leaned back and watched the emotion play out over Andy's face as she ooo'd and awed. He had seen it already before and fell in love. They took a look around the backyard and eventually landed on the deck. Robert pulled Andy close and wrapped an arm around her shoulders as they took in the setting sun and incredible view.

"It's stunning, Robert. I mean honestly what's not to love, but why are we really here?" Andy questioned.

Robert nuzzled Andy's head a bit as he spoke. "Well, I figure we're going to need more space when the baby comes. So if you want this place, it's yours."

Andy pulled away enough to catch the look on Robert's face. He was clearly serious but also grinning ear to ear. "How do you..." she tried to ask before she was interrupted.

"Well... I kind of suspected when you started eating weird stuff, getting queasy at certain smells and being way more tired than usual..." Andy smiled. Robert was nothing if not observant. "And then there was the moodiness... in love with me one day then upset with me the next"

"I was not..." Andy tried to defend, but she knew he was right. Her hormones had been totally out of whack. "Okay maybe a little," she said with a sheepish expression.

"Then I saw the test in the garbage when I took it out the other day. I figured you were trying to find a way to tell me so I thought I'd take the pressure off." Robert said it all so casually, like going out and buying a house was a totally normal thing to do.

"Robert Sullivan, what am I gonna do with you?" Andy said with a small grin. Her head was slightly tilted as she looked up into his happy brown eyes, she really was crazy about the man in front of her. He had turned her whole world upside down and she couldn't imagine it now without him.

"Have my baby I guess". Robert flirted in a low voice just as he leaned down to kiss his wife.
