Never Ending Love (Sanekanae)

This is not a requested One-Shot but I thought about it and decided to do my own! Also be prepared to cry if I can even make you cry. Also this will contain spoilers so beware.

A year Before Kanae's death

       Sanemi was pacing back in forth in his room, he had trouble sleeping because he was trying to find out what good way to tell Kanae that he loves her with all his heart. Even though he acts like he doesn't have a heart. Another roadblock was Kanae's short little sister: Shinobu. You can say she doesn't approve of me liking her sister which I can understand because I've been a total jackass to people at times. "Argh!! This is so frustrating!" Sanemi said as he threw his head back and gripped his hair shutting his eyes shut tightly. "It's just a simple, 'I love you'! Nothing to over the top or underrated. But I just can't help that she makes me feel so weak and vulnerable!" Sanemi said as he sat on his futon frustrated hoping no one can hear him through the door or the walls. "C'mon. If you don't tell her now you won't get the chance ever again" Sanemi said as let his head hang low his hair covering his eyes a bit. "Ara, Ara~! What's with all the commotion~?" Kanae said gracefully opening the door and sitting on the futon with him. She emitted this very cheery and carefree like aura around her that made Sanemi tried his absolute hardest to hold back a smile. "It's nothing" Sanemi said as he startdd to malfunction being this close to Kanae. "Come on! You can tell me! Or is it a secret? I'm great at keeping those! Like Shinobu has this secret crush on non other than Tomioka-san!" Kanae said before covering her mouth in a shocked expression realizing what she just said. "Number one: I don't give two fucks about it so your fine with saying it. And Number 2: It's not a secret.." Sanemi said as he looked up at her and his mind must be playing tricks on him because her smile widened even more when he looked at her.

"Ara, Ara~! You shouldn't curse~!" Kanae said closing her head and clasping her hands together over her chest. "You should smile more! I hear it gives people more of a positive attitude!" Kanae said as she sat down again next to Sanemi. "Not for everyone" Sanemi said as he looked away from her contemplating if he should smile at her or not. He decided not to because he would look like a dumbass, or so he told himself. "So what were you screaming about in here?" Kanae said grabbing ahold of Sanemi's arm that was closer to her and held it looking into his eyes. Sanemi looked away trying not to be weak or turn vulnerable. "It's just that I l- (Ahem) l-..." Sanemi tried to say but it was the hardest thing had had to say even though it was an easy three words. "Are you ok? Do you need medical help? Is that it?" Kanae said getting in front of Sanemi and look at his face before feeling his forehead or a high temp. He grabbed her hand and she looked at his neutral face that was sort of stoic like always. "The medicine I need is from a rare flower. One that grows once and is the only of its kind. Fortunately for me it's right in front of me" Sanemi said with a smile.

Kanae was confused even more so when he smiled at her that she didn't comprehend what he said before he ended up kissing her on the lips. She was bewildered at the sudden action that it took a while before melting into it. They never told each other but the kiss told them both that they both love each other.

After Kanae's death

       Sanemi was just in the training area where he was training his swordsman abilities. Kanae went off on a mission to kill an upper moon earlier and not a second passes that he doesn't miss her. His training and thoughts were cut short when his Crow flew in cawing like there's no tomorrow. "Caw! Message! Kockou Kanae killed in battle by Uppermoon! Caw!" The bird repeated the phrase to him again and his blood ran cold and he froze. Kanae. Dead? He felt emotions he never had since he was a kid. "Thank you for the message" Sanemi said dismissing the crow and it flew into the sky disappearing. Sanemi just stared at the sticks of bamboo that he slashed moments ago. He lost his grip on his sword and it fell to the sword with a clatter. He fell to his knees staring at the ground a shocked expression evident on his face. He tightened his fists so hard he swore he drew blood and that it was dripping onto the ground.

       With one quick motion he threw his head back lifted his arms up in a 'V' like shape. He opened his mouth and at the top of his lungs he yelled, he didn't care if anyone heard him or anything. He let every emotion that was bottled up and just let it out in that one blood curdling scream. He then bent over and started to bang his fists on the ground, over and over. The pain his hands received was nothing to what his heart was feeling. He started crying, he cried his heart out, he cried every last drop of tears he produced into that one tantrum he was having. He looked like a child that didn't get his way or didn't get what he wanted and it made him sick. Him? A child? Not in years. But he so wanted to be the child Kanae would take care of when he was either sick, hurt both physically or emotionally, he wanted her to sing him good night and tell him bedtime stories. He wanted her to kiss him good night, right now she would be the only one to calm him down in this situation, the one to tell him that it would be alright and that she won't tell anyone about this or that he shouldn't be ashamed. But she can't. She's the reason he's like this. She's the reason why he got nicer to people and not be such a sick at times. She's the reason why he even has a actual sense of being alive after the demons are defeated. But with her gone. It almost feels useless to live after the demons are defeated. And so he spent the rest of the day sulking, mourning, and weeping his one and only love that he held so dearly to his heart.

       This has been going on for weeks and that the pillars also noticed this because he barely eats his food and barely has the motivation to do most things. He won't even eat his favorite food! Shinobu was suspicious of this and decided to confront this privately with her and tried to talk to him. When she did she did her best to be nice and when he finally cooperated after some time she finally found out what it was. She was shocked, furious, and held pity for him after what he told her and they made a deal to keep it their little secret and that Sanemi promised to be a little nicer from now on.

After Muzan's defeat

       Sanemi was at the butterfly estate celebrating with the slayers that have survived that event. Everyone was having fun, they danced, ate, and had laughs. It was all amazing, Sanemi had a good time but he just can't get rid of Genya's death from his mind. He really hated how life worked and how it was on his life because not only did he lose Kanae. He now lost his brother, and even though he never really liked to show affection for him he still cared for him and wanted to keep him in good health.

       During a eating competition between Tanjiro, Inosuke, and Zenitsu, Sanemi left the estate and sat on a bench that let you examine the Koi in the water under a Blossom Tree. When he sat down he thought about all the great times he had with his fellow pillars, and all the bad times. He just stared at the water zoning in and out of memories. That's when a familiar voice made him snap out of it. "Ara, Ara~! Your missing out on all the fun inside!" Kanae's spirit said as she sat next to him on the bench with a cheerful smile. Sanemi was bewildered. Without thinking he trapped her in a huge hug, she gladly hugged back with a smile. "I'm proud of you, Sanemi. I always was, and will always be proud of you. Don't forget that" Kanae said looking him straight in the eyes. "I have a question. Do you still love me?" Sanemi said now feeling embarrassed that he asked that question. "I never have stopped loving you, Sanemi. Not a day goes by where I don't miss you. And I'll always be waiting for you, Sanemi. Always" Kanae said as she poked his nose childlike and giggled. Sanemi blushed then responded with, "I will always love you too, Kanae" Sanemi said as the night got a whole lot better.
