"I finally did it."
The first Hogsmeade trip of the year, Althea and Jace always went together to spend some time together and just catch up really. The two had always been close but after everything Althea had been through, he wanted her to know he was there for her no matter what. Hogwarts had always been like a dream come true for them but the last couple of years things had really fallen apart for them, yet they still managed to stand by each other.
"What are you talking about?" Althea asked in confusion as she took a sip of her tea.
Jace grinned, "I finally asked out Lily."
Althea had always known about his crush on the redhead but he admired her from afar instead, hoping that she would finally notice him. He had noticed how much it irritated her when Potter asked her out constantly and wouldn't leave her alone, so the last thing he wanted was to be that guy but watching Althea and Kazz love and support each other, he knew he wanted that too. Hence, he worked up the courage to ask out the redhead and she actually agreed. Although, Althea had always known the redhead had a soft spot for her brother so she always encouraged him to say something.
"I am so happy for you." She grinned with a squeal as Jace laughed at his sister. She had always encouraged him and wanted the best for him and those around her but lately, she was becoming more selfish and that was okay. To him, Althea had always taken care of those around her but watching her become happier and freer and think about her own happiness, made him proud. She was more open and playful with her friends and family and watching the change in her from the past year has been extraordinary.
Jace smiled, "What about you? How's things going with Kazz?"
Althea couldn't hide the blush and she tried to hide her face in her hair, "Things have been going well."
"Come on, give me more than that." Jace whined as he rolled his eyes.
Althea exhaled with a smile, "Things have been going really good. He's so sweet and understanding. I know that everyone sees a pretty hard exterior when they look at him but he's such a good listener and always knows what to say to make me feel better. Being with makes me feel safe and loved, I haven't felt that in so long."
"You love him?" Jace could see his sister freeze at the question, "It's okay to be scared. I know you care about him. It's okay to admit how you feel about him. He makes you happy, why is it so hard for you to admit how he makes you feel?" He didn't want to hurt his sister but sometimes he hated how she bottled up everything.
"If I say it out loud it become real."
"Why is that such a bad thing?"
"Well, well, well. Look what the cat dragged in."
Althea sighed as she refused to look at the person who was standing behind her. Over the past year, Althea had learnt to stand up for herself and not take shit from anyone. It had been hard to get to a place where she didn't take peoples comments to heart and was able to tell them to piss off and that's exactly what she did.
"Piss off Marlene." Althea relied as she gathered her stuff.
The blond glared at her before taking a step towards her, "You think you're so big now, don't you? No one wants you. No one likes you. Why don't you just go die in a hole?"
"You know, I kinda feel sorry for you Marlene. You put everyone around you down because you're not happy with yourself. You have everything you wanted but because you knew what you did to get it, you still try and hurt others because you feel guilty, because you hurt someone else, because you're scared you could lose it all at any given moment. That's why I feel sorry for you but don't for a moment think I'll let you talk to me however you want. I'm not a victim anymore and I sure as hell won't let you make me feel like one." Althea spoke as she looked Marlene dead in the guy. She had come too far to let that bitch make her feel less like a survivor and more like a victim once again.
Marlene got in her face, "You just don't know your place, do you? How dare you think you know me? You know nothing. You opinion means nothing to me." Althea could see that she had certainly struck a nerve with the blonde and that she was getting defensive but all Althea wanted was to leave. The longer she stood in the presence of the blonde, the worse her anxiety was getting and she could feel a panic attack coming on.
"Just leave me alone, Marlene." Althea sighed.
Marlene smirked, "What, do I scare you?"
"Not anymore. Now, all I feel is pity for you." Althea replied as she placed her bag on her shoulder before looking at Marlene once again, "I survived whatever you and your friends put me through. I'm a survivor. I'm gonna be just fine. One of these days karma will catch up to you and I hope you finally learn you lesson."
"And what is that?"
"That there are consequences to hurting other people."
