'Im in.' Roshni says casually. Just then, the other girl, whose name is Lila, leaned over.
'Are you talking about escaping?' She asks hopefully. I look at her. She looks hopeful and desperate, her teal eyes begging me to let her come.
'Yeah,' I finally say. 'We'll leave tonight.'
'Shh!' I whisper at Lila. We're sneaking past the guard post in the middle of the camp. We slip past the guard on watch easily. He looks drunk. Maybe he died of alcohol poisoning. Anyway, Lila and I are following Roshni. Earlier when we were following Melanie on a tour of the camp, she claimed that she has the best memory out of all three of us. After she recited word for word the speech made by the Leader, we agreed. So now she is leading us through the maze of passageways to the front of the camp.
After some close calls, we finally reach the edge. And then I realize that I have no idea what to do. Luckily, Roshni does.
'Come on, I'll lead you to one of my hiding places. It's only a half hours walk from here.' So we set off, dodging the few people we passed.
Finally, Roshni stops in the middle of a passage.
'Umm, there's nothing here. This isn't a very good hiding place.' I say.
'Shhh! I'm trying to find the button!' She hisses at us. And I realize that it's a hidden room.
'Got it!' Roshni presses a particularly lumpy part of the wall, and a circle of wall swings inwards. We scramble in through the gap, then Roshni pushes it closed. We are in a cave that isnt much larger than a small car. Its quite comfy looking, with rounded walls and a sandy floor. We all sit down and start talking. we talk about our previous life and the loved ones left behind. And death.
'So Roshni, how did you die? Earlier you said a gun killed you, but how?' Lila asked curiously.
'It was stupid. I went out to a nightclub, and was shot in an alley out back.' Her tone of voice showed that she didn't want to talk about it. But we still pressed her.
'What did to do to come here?' Lila gestured around at everything.
'I caused a car crash.' Roshni said in a very small voice. 'I didnt mean to, but I'm only on my learners, and I wasnt paying attention. I'm-'. Just then, a boy burst in.
