Hell's War

Chapter Nine

'Tanya quit making holes in the floor!!' Roshni yells at me. Its been a day since our meeting with Athena, and I've gotten way better at controlling and using my new ability. I think back to yesterday, when Athena had dismissed us almost straight away.

'Ok, I'm going to plan what you can all do at our next battle. In the meantime, I'll have Emmaline show you around. Oh, and could you also please unblock my door?' Athena motioned towards the wall behind us.

'Ok, sure.' I focused, and the wall turned back into a door. Guards burst in, weapons drawn.

'Halt!' Athena yells, 'These are some new recruits. Now all of you get back to your posts! And get me Emmaline.' After a few minutes, all the guards are gone, and a girl of about seventeen is standing in the doorway. Athena addresses the girl, 'Emmaline, show these new recruits around. Then give them the best cave we have.' She turns to us, 'And you are not allowed to tell anyone but Emmaline of the reason your in my army.' She dismissed us with a wave of her hand.

We followed Emmaline in the opposite direction from which we'd come.

'These are the guard rooms. All of the guards that patrol the camp rest here between shifts.' She gestured to the right as she said this. 'And over here is the training area. You will go there tomorrow to start fight practice.' She led us around a curve and back in the general direction we'd come from.

'Back this way are the trainee rooms. You'll be up the far end in the newest section. That's about it actually.' She led us up towards the end of the row, and left us outside our room. 'And don't wander around. You can only go to the training area and here. We'll come and get you if we need you.' Then she left. We went inside the room.

And I started practicing how to use my power. Which is what I should be doing right now. I focus on the wall in front of me, and imagine it as a tunnel that leads to the hideout where Lila and I met Cole. I try and focus on where the hideout is, but I've gotten confused by the multiple twists and turns I took to get from there to here. Suddenly, as if a switch got thrown in my head, I can sense the layout of that specific part of Hell.

It's like a map in my mind, and I know know exactly where my tunnel should go and how it will affect the already existing tunnels and caves. I quickly create the tunnel, then focus my mind on the layout of the camp. It comes into focus and the layout is all so clear now. I know exactly where everything is, and I know that I'll never get lost again. I come out of my reverie to find the others looking at me. Lila looks a bit worried.

'What?' I ask.

'Umm nothing, but you made the tunnel, then you kept spacing out. It's been about five minutes. We got a bit worried.' Lila explains.

'Oh. Sorry, but I just discovered something. I can see the layout of Hell.'

They all look stunned.

'Not everything. I just see certain parts when I focus, like the camp.' I hurriedly explain. They start to look calmer.

'So you could see, like, the other camp too?' Roshni asks. I nod my head.

'Cool!' Cole exclaims, 'That means you can mess them up and hey wouldn't even know what's happening!' I nod excitedly.

'Yeah, we could-' I'm interrupted by Emmaline.

'Come with me. Athena would like to see you.'
