We all freeze in terror. Cole pulls a dagger out of his belt. I close my eyes, wishing that there is a tunnel in front of us, but knowing its hopeless. So I only hear the gasps of surprise from my friends. I open my eyes quickly.
'Guys, wha-' I trail off as I see the tunnel in front of us, just a I'd imagined. But I didn't do this, did I? We all rush into the tunnel. We race along it, eventually reaching more familiar territory. Roshni took the lead, and led us to another secret room.
'Alright,' she says, turning to us, 'who created that tunnel?'
'It wasn't me!'
'Or me!'
'It definable wasn't me!' We all deny that it was us.
'What if,' I slowly say,' we all test if it was us. We could imagine a room joined to this one. We could do it one at a time so we can see who it is.'
'Thats a great idea,Tanya! I'll go first!' Roshni goes over to the wall and starts to concentrate. She does this for about a minute, then sighs.
'I suppose it wasn't me.'
'I'll go next.' Cole starts to concentrate. Again, nothing happens. Lila fails to produce. Room as well. Finally I go and stand near the wall. I concentrate, imagining a room in front of me, with a smooth bench carved into the wall. Suddenly I hear gasps from behind me. I quickly open my eyes and see a room, exactly as I had imagined it, connected to this one.
We all rush in, looking around as if we'd never seen a room before. I run my hand over the wall, unable to believe that all this had come from my mind. I feel ecstatic at this new ability I have, but cut off from my new friends for the same reason. Eventually we all go and sit down on the bench I had thoughtfully sculpted from the wall. They all turn and face me. Cole is looking weirded out, Lila looks torn, and Roshni looks slightly envious. I feel dazed, and I have no idea what to say (because they clearly expect me to say something). Then I have an idea.
'Okay, I know that we were gonna get away from this war and find a quiet place in Hell to just lie low and relax, but, as people always used to tell me, with great power comes great responsibility. I think that instead of running away, we should go and help Athena to fight against Robert and his band of thugs.will you come?' I look at them. Roshni exclaims,
'Tanya, I think I speak for all of us when I say, of course we will! That's what friends are for.'
After a good nights sleep and a lot of practice of my new gift, we set out for Athena's camp. Cole knows roughly where it is, so he leads us through the twisting tunnels. It's a five hour march, and so by the time we reach the outskirts of the camp, Lila and I are exhausted. Cole leads us over to a quiet corner , and I make another secret room. We all pile in and I quickly fall asleep.
After what seems like seconds, I jerk into consciousness. Lila is shaking my arm.
'Wake up, Tanya!' She whispers, 'It's time to go. We're going to go find Athena.'
