"You know if you look in the dictionary your name is the definition for ugly! Go look it up!" One of my supposed 'friends' yell. I dashed out of the room faster than I thought possible.
We were in Paige's living room for a party that she had thrown, when everyone started making fun of me and bullying me.
It was almost as if a switch which controled their perspective was flipped. One second I was "a great friend" the next I was "a slut and a whore." Sweet friends, right?
I ran from the living to the bathroom where shut the door and locked it.
I then proceeded to slump against the door and bawl.
I tried to forget about what they said, but the comment about the dictionary seemed to stick in my head. I realized I didn't know the true definition of ugly; so I decided to look it up.
I pulled out my phone and logged on our schools website. Once the homepage appeared I clicked the search bar and searched for the definition of the word "ugly".
While the website took its sweet time to load a let a few final tears roll down my cheek. Once the screen had loaded it displayed an error screen with the following error: "error code 91271: no definition available".
I figured that this could not be right and was getting ready to search for it again when someone knocked on the door I was leaning against; the knock was forceful and rattled me.
I got glumly up and slowly opened it, standing right in front of me was Alec Jacobs―he had never really been one of my "friends".
"Did you look up ugly?" he demanded quietly.
"Yes, I did you idiot." I said, putting as much venom in my words I could, "And there is NO definition for ugly."
"Well," he paused, seeming to try to gather his courage, "If beauty is in the eye of the beholder; there is no TRUE definition for ugly. Meaning the website―which I am admin of―is correct. Therefore ugly can mean anything, and as of right now, it means;
'A beautiful, spirited girl who doesn't take shit from anyone.'
"With that being said; you are so flipping ugly" with that he turned around and walked away, leaving me to stand with my mouth open as he sauntered away. Trust me I did not let him get very far. I ran quickly after him and gave him the biggest hug I could muster, "Thank you." I muttered into his shoulder as I felt his arms envelope me tightly.
"Any day, Ugly."
