My first observation of the Amazon Rainforest was that it was hot. And wet.

While the rest of us trailed behind, complaining and swatting at mosquitoes, Erica seemed unbothered by the heat, humidity, and bugs.

She looked back at us, a good twenty feet behind her. "Come on, slowpokes," she said.

"Not...slow," gasped Chip. "You're...just...fast."

Erica rolled her eyes and continued.

By that night, we were hot and sweaty and tired. Even Erica had slowed a little.

When we found a clearing to rest, Erica made us all hang hammocks and drape tarps over them. "If a scorpion gets into your hammock, you won't be happy at all," she informed us. "And some mosquitoes carry diseases."

"Wonderful," Chip grumbled.

Of course, when Erica opened her bag, half of the contents were various guns, bullets, poisons, throwing stars, arrows, and bows. There was even a mace.

Erica killed a parrot for us to eat. At the Academy, we probably would have talked for a while after dinner, we probably would have talked for a while. But after our long trek through the forest, we all fell asleep instantly.
