When I got up the next morning, Erica was already packed and ready. She handed each of us some dried fruit and ordered us to eat it on the go.
As we walked, I started to wonder. Why were these two agents so important? What was SPYDER planning this time? I was so engrossed in my train of thought that I didn't notice the figures stalking through the trees.
Something stung my neck. I swatted at it, hoping it wasn't one of the deadly bugs Erica had mentioned. Ahead of me, the others were doing the same thing.
I started to feel dizzy. I put a hand to my head, wondering what on earth was happening.
A vine net lashed out and caught Erica.
We froze.
It was a bad idea. It gave our attackers the opportunity to catch us as well.
I pulled a dart out of my neck. The tip had a tiny bit of my blood on it, along with something green. I sniffed at it. It smelled like poppies.
That's when it hit me.
It was poppies. Some sort of a magnified poppy juice.
And it could knock a human unconscious.
Just before I fell asleep, I caught a glimpse of the person who'd caught us.
It was my arch-nemesis.
Murray Hill.
