=====
With lots of tears, shouting, and hugging, the training camp ended. Everyone left feeling stronger and more knowledgeable, ready to take on the next matches they'd face.
To the guys crushing on Shouyou, they weren't too sad about leaving him- the reason being that he had invited them somewhere in two weeks. Still, that was a long time to wait for them.
-----
Timeskip: two weeks later
-----
Confidently, Shouyou tightened the tie around his neck, taking a deep breath. "It's okay, Hinata. You're going to win for sure," Asahi reassured, handing the ginger his bag filled with papers and journals.
"Thank you, Asahi-Senpai." Shouyou smiled, and he and his team left his home, walking into town in... mostly silence. They could hear the ginger rehearsing his statement over and over again, but even Tsukishima refused to say anything about it.
It was understandable, after all. He had just turned 17 last week, so, by gaining emancipation from the courts and proving that he can be supported financially, he'd be allowed to have his sister back and live alone without parental consent.
His mother and Yamera would, of course, be attending, but they will only serve as obstacles he needs to pass. All of his friends from volleyball would be there to support him if he messed up. He wouldn't mess up. He was going to win.
With that, he took another deep breath and opened the doors to the courtroom, determination written all over his face. His friends were sitting in the stands on the left, and some of his mother's coworkers were sitting on the right.
His mother, Yamara, and Natsu sat by the right court table, and Shouyou's table was on the right, which is where he sat. As the judge arrived, the ginger still couldn't remove his watery eyes from his sister, who was holding her arms out to him while crying.
"Nii-Chan!" She shouted, only to be silenced by Yamara, who pat her on the head softly. Her attention was still on the judge, though.
Wiping his tears away, Shouyou began pulling his papers from his backpack that had a cute sunflower and rollerskating keychain on the zipper of it.
Though he was alone at the table, he knew that all of his friends sat behind him, ready to defend him and support him no matter what happened. The judge watched the small interaction with the siblings, smiling softly.
"Well, let's get this started. Would Mrs. Hinata please speak?"
-----
Shouyou's mother's statement was terrible. It was as if she wanted to give Natsu to him. She didn't badmouth him or use his past temper tantrum against him. And after Yamera gave her side of the story, it was Shouyou's turn to speak.
"Okay, Shouyu, you may tell your side of this ordeal now."
"Yes, Ma'am." After bowing to the judge, Shouyou took a piece of paper from the table and inhaled, readying himself to speak.
"I'm very grateful to my mother," he began, shocking the whole courtroom. Even his mother gasped. "Though she wasn't always there, she gave us the funds to live off of. She worked for our sake, and if it wasn't for her, I never would've become the person I am today."
He took a shaky breath, trying to blink his on-coming tears away. "She may drink a lot and neglected us, but I sincerely think that she cares about us deep down."
He cleared his throat, picking up another piece of paper, but then crumbling it up after reading it over and clenching his fists against the table. Once he calmed himself, he made eye contact with the judge.
"I love my sister so much, but someone pointed out to me that I have to turn myself into someone she could aspire to be. I was overworking myself, and I didn't realize it at the time, but I'm sure she was very worried."
He glanced back at all his friends. with all of them either waving lightly or smiling at him. Sharing the smile, he turned back to the judge with shining eyes.
"The people behind me- they- they helped me realize what I was doing wrong and they helped me fix it. They showed me that it was okay if I relied on someone other than myself. They told me it was okay if I needed help sometimes because no one can handle everything."
He took a deep breath, calming his nerves just slightly. Barely, he could hear Natsu sniffling, and it broke his heart. "I love Natsu, and I swear I'll take care of the both of us until I die. I promise!"
The judge's smile widened in the slightest as she picked up her gavel and slammed it onto the table. The courtroom went silent. "I've made my decision." A thick tension wafted through the air as it seemed like no one was breathing.
"Shouyou Hinata, from here on out, you can freely live alone with Natsu. I know you'll take good care of her." The judge turned to his mother, her smile falling slightly.
"Mrs. Hinata, for neglecting your children, I should lock you up for a while, but I'm afraid I can't do so since Shouyou and Natsu need a stable income. So, with that, you are not allowed to go anywhere near 30 feet of them for as long as you live. It shouldn't be a problem, right?"
Mrs. Hinata shook her head, refusing to make eye contact with the judge. "Yamara, let Natsu go. She is no longer in your custody." Yamara quickly let Natsu go, who took off after Shouyou.
A sob left the ginger's lips as he stood from his chair and met her in the middle, falling to his knees to hug his little sister once more. The both of them cried heavily while expressing how much they missed each other. People in the audience were crying as well.
"I swear I'll make you the biggest, bestest dinner tonight!" Shouyou cried into her shoulder, not bothered by the loud applause.
-----
Before everyone left the courtroom, Shouyou's mother appeared in front of him and Natsu, who was wrapped up tightly in his arms as he walked. "Shouyou, I just want to say something before you leave, please." Guilt was all over her face, and he silently nodded his head.
Akaashi and Bokuto, who had just come back from the bathroom heard the talking and stood beside the little gingers with expressions that just screamed for her to try something. She gulped.
"I'm proud of who you've become today. Take care of her for me. I'm sorry I couldn't do it." With that, she began making her way to the doors until Shouyou called out to her. "Moth- Mom, I-" He paused, trying to find the right words.
"Thank you," he finally said, smiling softly at her. Natsu waved at the woman who walked away with a smile that matched her son's. "Well, what do you say we all have a big dinner at my house? We can watch Oki-Chan's Adventures!"
Bokuto, Akaashi, and Natsu all agreed as they went out of the courthouse to tell the others.
