I took a drink of my whiskey, the liquid burned as it went down. I set my glass down and narrowed my eyes at the kid in front of me."If we do this, there's no turning back"
He nodded, "I know the consequences, that is if we get caught"
I chuckled, "You'll become an outlaw. A wanted man"
"I know that too" He took his hat off and held it in his lap, "I need the money to save my farm"
I took another drink, "Alright"
The boy beamed at me, "Thank you sir"
I held my finger up, "Don't call me sir. I am not a fancy, rich man"
"What do I call you then?"
I stood up, "Call me Silas" I paused and then tilted my head to the side, "Yeah, I like Silas"
As I walked towards the door, he stood up and followed me.
"When will we do it?"
I walked up to my horse, untied her reigns and looked at the kid, "Come back here tomorrow at sunrise"
"We're doing it then?"
I smiled at him, "Be ready at sunrise"
The kid smiled, it was lopsided, "Okay, Silas"
My horse wined as I got on, "See ya kid" I looked forward, "Yah!"
I smiled as the dust surrounded me, the sun was going down and the moon was coming out. Cacti were all around me, a tumbleweed passed me and I saw a wild horse in the distance. He was a black stallion, he jumped up on its back legs and neighed.
"There's our friend Dandy" I smacked her neck and she neighed.
We soon passed the horse and we neared the canyon. As he we entered it, I pulled on her reigns.
"Whoa girl" She slowed down as we came to a small building.
It was more of a small wooden shack, but it was home. I climbed off and walked up the the porch as the door swung open.
"Papa!"
I felt a pair of skinny arms wrap themselves around my legs.
"Wyatt let papa tie Dandy up"
"It's okay honey" I look over towards the house.
My wife was standing in the doorway. Her long brown hair tumbled down past her shoulders, she was wearing a simple tan dress and she had a rag in her hands.
"Papa you were gone an awfully longtime!"
I knelt and ruffled his scraggly blond hair, "One more day Wyatt and papa will be done leaving home"
His blue eyes lit up, "Really papa?"
I kissed the top of his head, "Yes Wyatt"
Wyatt smiled and he ran towards his mom, "Mama did you hear what papa said?"
"I did"
I stood and looked at her, she was frowning at me.
Dandy neighed, I walked her to her corral, took her bridle off and closed the gate. I walked towards the house, wiping my hands on my pants as I pushed the door open.
The room was small. A stove sat in the corner, a small bed on the other side and a small table with three chairs sat in the middle.
Wyatt was sitting down eating dinner and my wife was standing near the stove.
